It's Los Angeles and Long Beach with the 160 ships sitting idle.
Thank you California
More are re-routing their ships and now 9-10 idle ships are sitting off NJ/NY ports.
There is also a shortage of about 80,000 truck drivers across the nation including east coast ports, driving from the east coast to the west would make matters worse.
Part of the pending infrastructure bill includes workforce development for drivers but that doesn't solve the immediate problem.
Governor Phil Murphy discussed the issue Wednesday, saying that while other ports "are in chaos," ships are not piling up off the coast of New Jersey.
He warned, however, that it is inevitable that will change.
LA and Long Beach handle 40% of dry goods.
Probably in the middle somewhere.
I have no idea if Newark is the main port in New Jersey, or if their other ports could be having problems.

I don't think the USA would dare try that. Too much risk for escape.
I haven't figured out how this works. Sure, if they charter their own ships, they can presumably get the ships loaded faster. But once they arrive off the coast, don't they have to wait in the same lines as all the other ships? Do they have their own special ports or something?
No,they dont have their own ports unloading goods.
But some light items can be brought in by air.
truck driver right out of school(trucking school),starting salary $60K.
