Why would they? They stand to benefit the most from it and have been funding the science to prove it's true (which is a new type of "science") since the beginning. Only the uneducated believe oil and gas companies have been against this science. On the contrary, they've been among the top funders going back decades. They & the banks realized the potential profits before anyone else.

Do you seriously think that there are no "conservatives" who accept the science of anthropogenic climate change? Do you seriously think that climate scientists all over the world are involved in some massive, global "liberal" conspiracy to propagate "left wing propaganda and push an agenda"? Do you seriously think you know more about the science of climate than they do? If so, your mind has been hijacked by an extremely mentally unhealthy obsession with hating "liberals," to the point where you are simply incapable of thinking outside of that box. It reminds me of a friend's mother-in-law, who watched only FOX and was so convinced that if Obama were elected, he would unleash his secret Muslim army on the U.S. to enforce Sharia law, that she had iron bars installed on all her doors and windows. Congratulations: you live behind the iron bars of paranoia.

It's a fascist takeover of government agencies to benefit the energy industry heads and corporate lobbyists obviously. Point two is that conservatives will always try to reduce funding to agencies they dislike, and then make the claim that "government doesn't work." Of course it doesn't if you have outside interests that are more important. Take a look at the Kansas model and how great that worked for them. You reduce spending so much that you have a dysfunctional model that does nothing well, educated people exit the state quickly, and few businesses want to relocate there.

Under Mr. Pruitt’s leadership the E.P.A. also has removed most mentions of the words “climate change” from its website. He has declined to link carbon dioxide emissions to global warming, and in an interview with Time magazine last week said he intended to assemble a team of independent experts to challenge established climate science because, Mr. Pruitt asserted, it has not yet been subject to “a robust, meaningful debate.”

This is as unconscionable as it is unbelievable. Censoring scientific research and slapping a gag order on scientists who work for the EPA and NOAA is NOT going to make America "great again." Rather such restrictions on science will send the US in a tailspin back to the dark ages. China, ironically one of the worst polluters on the face of the earth, is all too eager to take over the lead role in global climate talks; stepping neatly into the vacuum created by Trump's withdrawal from the Paris Accords.

This is what happens when you hire the world's biggest alligator on record - Rex Tillerson (chairman of and CEO of Exxon Mobile) to come swim in your swamp under the guise of Secretary of State. Poor lil' Exxon - you've been hiding the truth about climate change since way back in the 1980's when your own scientists informed you of the results of their work on climate and CO2 emissions. Nice job, guys. NOT!

Pruitt is either a complete idiot when it comes to science or else his boss has ordered him to continue on with the cover-up for as long as possible - probably both.

Believe it or not, scientific research and investigation is the epitome of "robust, meaningful debate." Scientists publish the details of their work in peer-reviewed journals dedicated to their particular field of scientific endeavor. A board of scientists who work in the same field as does the scientist who has made a submission for publication, review the paper for accuracy and protocols. If the paper is accepted and published, other scientists must be able to replicate the results themselves; otherwise the original researcher finds herself discredited and outed by her peers as a charlatan.

If those 3 EPA scientists got up in front of the attendees at today's conference and started spewing "fake" science, we other scientists would see that right away and would publicly challenge their conclusions.

This censorship by Scott Pruitt is simply unacceptable, especially since the 3 scientists in question are biologists and ecologists. We need to study the response to climate change by as many species as possible in order to be prepared for what is yet to come and to be able to compensate as much as possible for on-going extinctions and loss of habitat.

If you like to eat, thank a scientist - don't put a muzzle on their face.

It's hopeless, really. Such people are so addicted to hate and paranoia that reason and logic simply cannot penetrate the fears, hatreds and prejudices that define their reality. It's like we've been thrown back into the Middle Ages.

It seems pretty clear that you've never researched this topic outside of your echo chamber. Google up the articles from the IPCC scientists who quit because of the politiciaztion of climate science. They say very plainly that the science has become a sad joke. That only the most alarming findings make into the important academic papers & get funding. What we see then is a competition among scientists all vying for the same academic grants & notoriety, where the only chance to advance is to have the most alarming findings. Moderates & skeptics are left in the dust or run out of the field.

The IPCC report for policy makers was an especially good example of this politization. Scientists would draft a chapter and have to submit it to various bureaucrats with no scientific background who had "edit" power over the results. They could not re-write the science, but anything they didn't like they simply had edited out of the papers. Why? because the UN was giving away money to the various countries most damaged by climate change, which incentivized them to push the most alarming scenarios possible, to get the most money. The scientists said the various chapters of were a shell of what was originally written, but this is what passes as climate science. This mind you, is from the IPCC, the generally accepted ultimate word on climate change that all others take their lead from.

I don't quite agree with this one. IMO, it's more like they're afraid that "man" does indeed have the power to destroy the biosphere without God's help. That would really discredit the Book of Revelation and such. Even assuming my comment's wrong, a lot of older people still see the environmental movements as being a post-Cold War haven for anticapitalist groups, even if the passage of time diluted that tendency somewhat.

You cannot even understand a site aimed at grammar school kids, so you call it propaganda....I'm surprised you didn't use the usual GOP response "Fake news"....

It was a scientific paper with no policy attached. It was science. But since Republicans are anti-science and anti-environment, they are now taking science out of the EPA. Three more years of this and the U.S. will be regarded as the least educated part of the world.
