I remember back in the sixth grade my science teacher explained to us that "colored" was what you're supposed to say these days... not 'black'. That was in the late 80's in bum-**** Southern Appalachia in a town where precisely zero colored people lived.
Not racist per se, just really, really dated as a result they can indicated to the listener an inability to come to grips with the social changes that have transpired since such terms were social acceptable.
Personally, I give an allowance based upon the the age of the speaker.
No one told me..........just where do you go now to keep updated on the latest "PC language"
Who the hell can keep up with what they want to be called? What they are called today may change next week. None of the names "colored" or "Oriental" is racists.
I've never given it much thought, but I came across a message board where the subject came up. What do you think? Is calling a black person coloured or an East Asian person Oriental racist or just antiquated?

Honestly, neither is originally, but I think if someone who is black or Asian tells you not to call them that, and you still do it, then it becomes racist, or rather it becomes antagonistic. In my experience, both of those words are only used in an antagonistic sense.
Yet, in the US, the NAACP has not changed it's name
The nomenclature and brand is too old. There's no need to change it.

No one has to tell you. You already know what you should and shouldn't say unless you live under a rock.
Coloured is gonna get you nothing but headaches. What Oriental will get you is unknown to me, and that's between you and Asians to work out. But from what i know, it's not acceptable.
