This is a tough call for me. While I think that income inequality at this extent is bad for the economy, I'm not sure redistribution is the best solution, especially if it comes from the government increasing taxes on the rich so that they can increase subsidies for the poor.
There's other ways the government can fix the issue. One would be providing tax incentives for companies who invest in their employees.
I believe we need to be innovative in our policy decisions. You don't have to "confiscate" wealth, but you can do things to promote a healthier economy.

What if the theoretical tax increase were to benefit middle class earners who does not qualify for EITC ?
This needs to change and some people do not see this as a problem . This right here is why republicans should never have a majority of any every again if they do they will own 60% to 70% of the wealth and US will be a third world country
Yes, the answer is to take away from those who have it and give to those that do not.
How about this instead? Strive to get to the 1%, you might not make it but the closer you get the more you have. If everyone strived to be part of the 1%, while there would always be a 1% those not in the 1% would be doing much better.
I bet that never occurred to you. The only one holding you down from being in the 1% or better than you are is you. Blaming others is the easy way out.

Strive? In what way? Workers are already increasing productivity. They just don't get to reap what they sow.

That doesn't make a lot of sense. Especially in a market with scarcity (number of jobs available, number of jobs that pay in the 1%).
Let's face it, a vast majority of the population are not entrepreneurs and are paid based on market factors rather than some "perceived" worth or metric. Even as an entrepreneur, there is only so much available in any particular market and while you may not have a salary cap, you do have a limited market to capture.
The issue is much deeper than people simply not "working hard enough".

So, you think there should be a limit on how much and individual is allowed to earn?
The Conservative solution to this:
Make it easier for people to get rich.
The Liberal solution to this:
Make it easier for people to stay poor.
