Ask a East German or anyone who lived under socialism. Then just think there were many reasons they had restricted travel and even a wall in Germany. Perhaps because people would leave; do you think? We now see many European go to the more successful more capitalist system countries to work now days.

East Germany was unfortunate in that it was associated with the USSR and thus a hot spot during the cold war.
East Germany was actually better than West Germany in some respect. But after the wall came down West Germany destroyed what was good about East Germany, actually in a similar blind rejection that is typical of Americans. There were good companies in East Germany, but they were bought up, the knowledge was transferred to the West and then the Eastern originals were killed off. That is one reason why many people in East Germany still don't like the West. They feel their country was destroyed in a kind of sale.

That development was already in full swing when the US was founded, the foundations for that were laid in France, Britain etc. And way before that there were other waves of intellectual boom, like in ancient Egypt, whose best time was when it was egalitarian.

It is also interesting to note that all those famous early inventors and scientists did their work because they loved what they were doing. Hardly any of them gained materially from their work. Many inventors and scientists died poor, some were even persecuted... Money as a motivation for important work is a relatively recent thing. Only simple stuff like trading foods etc. has always been about money.
Those foundations were laid at a time when socialism as it is currently defined didn't exist. England, France, Spain, and the rest of Europe were monarchies at the time of the "discovery" of the new world. The discoverers didn't cross the sea because they had a desire to better the human condition. They crossed the seas in order to find new trade routes which would bring profit to either themselves or the monarchs who sponsored them.

All those early scientists and inventors? They were involved in egotistical rivalries with other scientists, or with the powers that be of their time (ruling class, church, etc.). They didn't make their discoveries for the betterment of the human race, either. Most of them were after fame, notoriety, one-upsmanship, or money.

Please, name one discovery or innovation which benefited mankind and was made by a socialist.

The vast majority don't even know what socialism is, think Barrack Obama, North Korea and the Soviet Union are examples.

OP doesn't seem to know either, Germany isn't socialist

Now the Mondragon Corporation on the other hand, that's an example of socialism.

Because at 18, I couldn't wait to be free from parents telling me what I could and couldn't do and now I don't want a government parenting me.

When you yourself say socialism in its current form did not exist back then, how could I name socialist inventors from that time? Still, many did not do it for money, that is all I am saying. I never said there was anything wrong with wanting one's work to be recognized. As I said before, I don't consider humans ants, I never liked that variety of socialism. I think pride is a very legitimate motivation in life. Actually, in my view altruism and pride are the only two legit motivations I can think of at the moment.

I'm not restricting you to the time frame of the discovery of the new world. I just can't seem to think of any inventions or innovations which were beneficial to mankind that were made by a socialist.

Socialist were great at administering misery. So much so that those people under that rule are adamantly capitalist.

Unfortunately some people don't grow up, they "fail to launch" and because of that they think everyone should sulk in their misery. Misery loves company, you know.
