Basically the IRS targeted any group that looked like it would be against the current administration.
We'll see who else comes forward.

Richard Nixon was impeached for making the IRS go after his political opponents.

(cue the liberals whiners who will point out Nixon wasn't impeached... since he got out of town just ahead of the posse)

Article 2 of the Articles of Impeachment against him voted out of the House committee, describe his use of the IRS to harass and investigate his opponents.

But today, when Obama does the same thing, all the IRS has to do is say "Oops, I'm sorry", and that makes it all better.

Has this been traced back to Obama and the WH ?

Huffington post reports that

Rep. Charles Boustany, R-La., chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee's oversight subcommittee, said the report "raises serious questions as to who at IRS, who knew about this, why this practice was allowed to continue for as long as it did, and how widespread it was."

"This timeline reveals at least two extremely unethical actions by the IRS. One, as early as 2010, they targeted groups for political purposes. Two, they willfully and knowingly lied to Congress for years despite being aware that Congress was investigating this practice," Boustany said.

We appear to be scratching the surface on this story. How far through the looking glass does this story reach? Stay tuned.

I have not made any reference to the "tea party", until just now, on this thread. . . .what are you talking about?

Targeting conservative groups before and during an election. This is an abuse of power and will be investigated.

10 to 1 they get away with it and nothing more than a hand slap and public berating.

This administration has already gotten away with other issues and this will be no different.

The Washington Post is calling for a full IRS investigation. The Wall Street Journal is outraged too. Good to see both sides coming together on this. The bottom line is that the IRS is not supposed to be a political tool. Millions of Americans file tax returns or forms on the assumption that the IRS will not look at their numbers or data with a "partisan" eye.

This seems to be a rare occasion where all are willing to admit that they are concerned that if the IRS can go after one group today, they can come after them next year.

An apology isn't enough here.

That should be the real focus. Fire both the low level employees, the mid level and the top official. That's how you fix this problem.

But in the end someone with be the fall person. They will resign and get a nice high 6 figure lobbying job.
Yeah, perp walks are only for the people, the government needs to appear sanitized and aloof. I don't know about anyone else, but I'd like to know who is abusing their position in our government to promote their ideology or punish people whose views they don't agree with.
