Here is the thing that ticks me off about college. I got a AA deg. To get a deg. in something like accounting or IT you have to take a bunch of crap classes like Philosophy and history and many things you will mostly forget a month after your done. College is like Dishnetwork. You can get what you want like ESPN or Discovery or The Learning channel but you also have to take Home Shopping and Trinity Broadcasting. LOL WTF I don't want that crap. Oh well, we want you to have a well rounded education. No you don't you want me to buy useless crap I don't want and can't use. Its a rip off.

You are seriously going to say college is a ripoff because you need 2 history classes and a humanities course?

Then how is the ''ideal'' college you're seeking any different than being just a glorified trade school?

Then on top of that are certifications and continuing education if an employee wants to stay competitive. Otherwise you're competing against contract programmers in India, Brazil, et al. To break into management a person usually needs an M.S.
This is the transition I observed begining in the 80's.

Y2K was the last payday for the DIY COBOL programmer.

You are ticked off as a result of not understanding the purpose of college. College is not a trade school. If you want to learn the IT trade, and nothing else, then skip college.
