I"m lucky in this sense, I don't have any boys so I don't have any children currently involved in Boy Scouts.

I have girls and as the Girls Scouts are rife with leftist BS, I avoided that mess and put my girls in church activities instead.

Church Run Boy Scout Troops:
The BSA is guaranteed to lose everything in red and will probably lose the majority of everything in blue if they do this.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
Troops: 37,882
Boy Scouts: 420,977

United Methodist Church
Troops: 11,078
Boy Scouts: 371,491

Catholic Church
Troops: 8,570
Boy Scouts: 283,642

Presbyterian Church
Troops: 3,663
Boy Scouts: 127,931

Lutheran Church
Troops: 3,902
Boy Scouts: 119,701

Baptist Churches
Troops: 4,099
Boy Scouts: 109,298

Will the BSA make a move that will cost them well over half of their current 900,000 youth membership?

On top of that, many other organizations that run scout troops, while not being religions themselves, are religiously oriented. Troops run by the Masons, YMCA's, etc are likely to drop out entirely. Then take into account the fact that many parents will simply pull their kids out of the program.

Realistically speaking, this move would be organizational suicide.

As a liberal, I don't really care what the BSA does. Lets be honest, the kids today that end up in the boy scouts are the socially awkward castoffs from youth sports. BSA died a long time ago... finally entering the 21st century won't be enough to reverse it.

Kids in the 21st century? That would mean they would be fat, ignorant, have no common sense in fashion, be disrespectful, use lots of drugs, bad taste in music, etc.

Oh, wait, looked at the article.... if you mean joining the 21st century and accepting gays..... thats cool

We can have gay friendly kids who are worse off in every other way than kids in the 50's -80's

The BSA would undoubtedly survive, but only as a much smaller entity. Well over half of current Boy Scout troops would disappear overnight.

Whether you agree or disagree, that is reality. The BSA simply can't afford to offer up widespread acceptance of gays.
They aren't being "forced" to do anything. This is in response to requests from individual scout troops.

"But since then, a scouting official said, local chapters have been urging a reconsideration. "We're a grassroots organization. This is a response to what's happening at the local level," the official said."

And, it looks like they may not be able to afford not to change their policy:

"About 50 local United Way groups and several corporations and charities have concluded that the ban violates their non-discrimination requirements and have ceased providing financial aid to the Boy Scouts. "

Guess not.

You really believe that you can speak for every person in every one of those denominations?
Wow. Just wow.

A valiant effort, but:

They won't listen. they're too busy mistaking pedophilia with homosesxuality.

I gather you much prefer the old fashioned way in which homosexuals had to keep themselves secret if they wanted to join and remain in. Quite frankly, it would seem you would want your son in an organization where homosexuals were free to be open as to who they were, so your son would know just who the hell it is they need to watch out for.

My two oldest boys were in Cub Scouts briefly way back when.

Even back then, I found something kind of creepy about it and the parent leaders were......well, weird.

I was glad when my sons decided it wasn't a particularly good fit for them and found other activities (soccer, 4-H).

Why can't gays just start their own organization and leave BSA alone? They would be free to do anything they want that way. Serious question...
