How about just putting the distribution of these (mostly pharmaceutical) narcotics back into the
hands of physicians and pharmacists?

Even with "Big Pharm" price structures... the retail cost to maintain an addiction would be modest.
Absent that cost issue... EVERY BIT of the crime associated with contraband is eliminated.

Or is that just too simple for you?

Those inclined to break an addiction c/should get meaningful support.
Those inclined to wallow in it c/should be allowed to kill themselves in peace.

Yes -- the government is enabling the drug addicts by handing them so many handouts -- why work for a living when welfare handouts add up to over $60,000 a year and when you don't work for a living, every day just looks like the day before it, you have to do drugs just to have something to do.

Cut off the welfare handouts and let people start choosing between getting sober and sharp so they can eat and have housing, or their drugs -- but no more taxpayer handouts.

so how about it?

serial offenders that are hooked on crystal meth, crack, heroin and the like - give them one chance to sort it out otherwise it's the chop!

and what is with this ridiculous state-sponsered, free methadone.
Why stop with those? We should also include hard core addicted users of prescription drugs in the mix.

It isn't a theory, it is barely a hypothesis. It is actually nothing more than a typical right-wing rant of the day.

that's ridiculous though.

if the price comes down then the addict just uses more, and gets dangerously messed up.

eliminating use should be the priority here
