That is not necessarily true that he could have had the gun in his hand. As for the other speculation, yes it is a possibility that he could have got his gun from wherever it was concealed. It would be unwise to assume he couldn't.
If Trayvon is on top of him beating him up, wouldn't Trayvon grab at his gun at the first site of it? Do you think Trayvon would just sit on top of Zimmerman and watch as Zimmerman aimed and pulled the trigger? Not a very likely scenario.
then you would also have a problem with George Zimmerman being arrested more than once for domestic violence.
Let's see which one is the "thug" - the man who has been arrested att least twice for beating his girlfriend vs a teenager who skipped a day of school.
Excuse me sir, but your bias is showing.
And yes, you know all and see all, Mr sayer of sooth!
My understanding was that GZ was still in his car when he was on the phone with 911 when the dispatcher told him that he didn't need to follow TM.
.
After all the hundreds of post you put up on this topic...you REALLY SHOULD LISTEN TO THE 911 TAPE!
You would understand that you are WRONG. Zimmerman says "he's running". YOu hear the car door close. THe sounds of pounding feet. And Zimmerman's breathing becoming labored as he talks with dispatch. ONLY then does dispatch ask if Zimmerman is following the man. When he answers yes, only then does dispatch respond "we don't need you to do that". To which Zimmerman says "OK", and you no longer hear pounding footsteps. Within a few seconds Zimmerman's breathing returns to normal. It's pretty clear that he stops running, and either stops and stays in place, or at worst is walking slowly.
So...he does NOT start following Martin after being told not to (as some STILL state). He was already following when it is suggested that he doesn't need to. He DOES stop following (or at the least stops running after) him when that happens.

Then what? Did Zimmerman hang up on the 911 call when he got to Trayvon?

After reading Zimmerman's version of events at the bail hearing, Martin did spot the gun and tried to reach for it Zimmerman said. That is when Zimmerman beat him to it and used it to shoot him.
A CBS news report is NOT a copy of the Medical Examiner's report. And even the new reports says "It suggests Zimmerman fired inches away"......IT SUGGESTS. You do realize how vague that is, don't you? Nothing in that CBS reports gives any real factual information backed up by reliable, identifiable sources.
The news reports which have been released based on the "leaked" medical information says the shot was from "moderate" or "intermediate" range. That is NOT CLOSE.
I will take the word of a medical doctor, specifically a forensic pathologist, medical examiner, when it is released, over the word of vague witnesses who thought they saw something at the crime scene which suggests how far away the gun was from Trayvon when he was shot.
Where are these news reports, and the evidence to support them, that reports that the shot was fired from a distance? It would really chance my opinion on the case. The only place I have even seen such a statement...is in your post. I'd like to learn more.
Stippling, or "power burns" are caused by burning gunpowder becoming imdedded in/on skin or clothing. It only happens at a very short range (at least when from a handgun, firing handgun ammunition). IF such marks were present they prove that the shot happened at very close range, supporting Zimmerman's claim. Also, if the gun were actually pressed against Martin when fired, there are very distinct marks when expanding gasses from the burning propellant are driven into the body.
