Its not a big deal. And just because you don't like it...you don't get to make that decision. Its none of your business.
Not a big deal?! Re designing an eight year old child is not a big deal? As I already said, the precedence this sets is frightening. Undef tbe thinking this represents, if parents, any parents, decide their child would be "helped" by alteration, then they just redisign and rebuild. Before you know it, nature won't have any say. With all the wackos, in this world, the implications of this are far from "not a big deal"! Who knows what they could come up with, paired with doctors who think they can play God.

"Parents" can just draw up a child, and order to specs. No natural procreation required. If they have young children already, and they decide they can make them more physically and mentally in line with their ideals, just order ip some hormone altering drugs, and make plans for surgical alterations.

This, particular, case, smells like a radical, "we are woman, bear us roar", agenda driven destruction of a young boys life. I , personally, think this pair are daffy as a couple outhouse rats. Tbey have brainwashed this child, I think they hate men, and just don't want to raise a boy. They are NUTS, and the doctors signing on to their plan, are mad scientists, not physicians.

That they can, proudly, publicize their plans to alter this child, to conform to their lifestyle, and it's "no big deal" is a sickening look into our future. This is right out of some twisted sci fi story, set in a future where humans are designed and/or surgically altered to fit whatever parameters are desired by "parents". Wbere ha ing a child is like buying a car, features, performance, and extras are just a matter of money. Again, this, truly, disgusts me.

They haven't cut off her penis and testicles. They've put her on medication to prevent puberty from starting to give her more time to figure out if she want's to be male or female. That's very different from having surgery. It's by no means permanent or harmful.

Oh, goodness. Do people have a hard time reading or comprehending written info? These parents are not redesigning anyone. They didn't change the [then] boy's body at age 8. They simply allowed him to start picking his own clothes and those clothes were girls' clothes.

The child is transgender which is actually not that uncommon in children. Most adult transgender people say they knew they were the wrong sex when they were small children. These parents would have been cruel and irresponsible to force their dauhter to continue to live as a boy when she's not. She's a girl who has a birth defect in the form of a male body. The parents are doing what's best for the child. The alternative would have been depression, a deep self hatred and possible self mutilation or suicide.

This has nothing to do with the parents being gay. Plenty of heterosexual parents also allow their transgender children to transition to their real gender. It's actually recommended by experts everywhere in the country.

Kudos to these brave parents for doing what's best for their child.

This is what two specialists say about using hormone blockers to delay puberty for transgender children.

Pure ignorance and prejudice.

So what was the 'militant agenda' of these straight parents who did the same thing for their transgender child.

Considering about 50% of transgender children attempt suicide when going through puberty, using treatment to delay puberty on the advice of their specialists may just have saved their child's life.

The International Endocrine Society (IES) 1 issued a draft set of guidelines in early 2008-DEC. 2 They are co-sponsored by the European Society of Endocrinology (ESE), The World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH), and Lawson Wilkins Pediatric Endocrine Society (LWPES).

The guidelines recommend that some transgender children as young as 12 years-of-age should be given medication to suppress puberty. This would greatly simplify gender reassignment surgery if they decide to undergo it later in life when they have sufficient maturity to decide this.

The main benefit from such puberty blockers would be the avoidance of the inevitable body changes caused by puberty. For example, a male-to-female (MTF) transexual could avoid having her voice deepen, a masculine bone structure appear, her Adam's Apple enlarge, and hair growth on her face. A female-to-male (FTM) could avoid developing breasts, feminine shaped hips, and female bone structure elsewhere. Without these bodily changes, there would be less to change during gender reassignment surgery (GRS).

Another benefit of putting off puberty would be that the individual would be more mature and capable of making a settled decision in their mid-teens rather than their pre-teens. If, at the age of 16 or so, they decide to not proceed with gender reassignment surgery, they can simply stop the puberty blocker medication and go through puberty.

'Child abuse' would have been forcing their transgender child to dress and behave as a boy, to go through puberty and risk him killing himself. Delaying puberty with hormone blockers was under the advice of specialists. He had already threatened to cut off his own penis at age 8.
