The guy who said that is the Pima County Sheriff, so I think he'd know.
Oh really, do you have his exact quote? And did he provide evidence to support his statement...NOPE..this is just a bunch of foolish extrapolation by misinformed and misguided members on CityData. For example, Tucson is very Democratic and leans left. It's Phoenix that is conservative and leans Right. But if you are an uneducated member on City Data, you hear the word Arizona and will naturally assume the entire state is Right and naturally assume this guy was a right wing extremist. Nice try
The shooter's Facebook and other internet postings had a lot of conspiracy stuff on them before they were taken down. You know, evil progressives destroying America, the illegitimacy of government. The usual drivel which passes for political discourse these days.
The Pima County Sheriff went on at some length about the effects of such a relentless spewing of vitriolic, hateful, bigoted opinions on the unbalanced, which he thinks this guy probably is. The Sheriff didn't call names, but he referred to certain people on radio and some on TV who litter the airways with division and prejudice. The implication is that the purveyors of that garbage bear a portion of the blame for whipping people into frenzies which can result in things like this shooting when it's heard by those who aren't quite sane.
He's right. And, we all know who he was referring to.
So, just what's the reaction from those people?
They were on Fox Business just now, still talking about progressive conspiracies and socialist's and Obamacare, etc, as if nothing happened in Tucson, as if the atmosphere of hate they've helped create isn't an issue. Napolitano and Beck sort of casually carried on a conversation about whatever their latest conspiracy theory is, then Napolitano sequed into a discussion with some Georgia Congressman about the evils of Obamacare.
Well...It IS an issue and I'm angry that it's still going on, that the manure of division is still be shoveled while Congresswoman Gifford fights for her life and while the families of the dead come to grips with the true reality of the politics of hatred and division. Those victims have paid the cost of the right-wing's political advantage in blood and it should make us all angry!
But, I'm betting it won't. I'm betting that there will still be those here who defend their hate, make excuses for the vitriol and who will pass off the connection between rhetoric and action by evil people as if it doesn't exist, as if the hatred exists in a vacuum.
The Sheriff is right. We as a nation need to stop and do some soul searching. Is this how we REALLY want our hot-button political issues settled? With the barrel of a gun in the hands of a lunatic driven to spams of hate by the talking heads?
This is a tragedy. No matter who you are, no matter what party you belong to, this is a horrible tragedy. No matter whether you agree or disagree with your representative, this action is unacceptable, and the gunman needs to be prosecuted and punished.
Jared never elisted in the army. Two years ago, he went through a psych consultation and wasn't able to go any further according to a MEPS source out of Phoenix.

Some of those sites and some of the extreme doomer sites can suck you right in. Just takes a weak mind to be easily swayed into thinking they are coming to get you.
We as a nation also need to stop and ask what is happening with the youth in America that they so easily pick up a gun and shoot others and seem to have no qualms about it.
Our society, our free society is based on need only?
Basing a society solely on want creates a selfish, arrogant society. Oh wait...

I don't disagree, but I also think increasing accountability could only help. Either way, I don't want to get into a gun control debate on this thread.
