Then, perhaps, as a law enforcement officer, Sheriff Dupnik should have taken the Columbine incident as a lessons learned in law enforcement and taken this young man's threats more serious. At best, it shows very poor judgement; at worst, it shows culpability.
Interesting because here if you make a threat that you will harm yourself or others you will get put in a mental health facility so they can evaluate you. Here it is called the Baker Act and I would think that other states have the same type of thing.

I believe that death threats are investigated normally,for some reason it appears the threats from Loughner weren't.

At this point in time the general public doesn't know what was or was not done regarding taking this guy's threads seriously. We don't know if he was ever evaluated by a mental health professional. We don't know if the sheriff ever talked to his parents about his behavior. We don't know if his parents took any warning sights seriously, or if they assured the sheriff that they would find him professional help, or not. We DO know that if every person who every posted something scary or threatening on the internet were arrested, the public outcry would not be on the side of law enforcement.
He wasn't receiving treatment from the state making this entire topic moot.
