"Jumping the shark." What a great saying. I laugh every time I hear it used.

I agree. It is great especially in the context of the Fonz jumping a shark on skis and that signaling the downward turn in the show. I think, for Phoenix approving the light rail is what defines the moment when we jumped the shark. It was that over the top, desperate attempt to be what we are not that exposed our city for the fraud it is. I propose we have a Jump The Shark Day. Mayor Phil can dress in leather and a Speedo and jump over a light rail car on skis - in the middle of Tempe town lake.

I disagree with that. I think light rail is an awesome idea. A lot of successful modern cities have it, so I see no reason for why it shouldn't have been done in Phoenix.

I grew up in the San Joaquin Valley. One of the early posters here cautioned about crime in Phoenix. Believe me, they do not know what the crime in California's inland valley is like. Phoenix is relatively safer than the "flyover" parts of California. $1500 per month rent for a house is enough to put you in a decent area in Phoenix. I would first look at www.rottenneighbor.com (well the site says under construction, so it must be down for now). I would google other web sites on crime stats and how good schools are before I move into the neighborhood.

Default Stay in Sac

hey there!

stay in sac, there are currently more people out of work here the unemployment rate is high and I'm having to leave due to the poor economy. You are safer in Cali. The schools here suck! your child will become lost, or bored cuz the schools are at least 5 to 10 years behind other states here.

my son and i came from TX, what he was studying here in AZ in 7th grade he learned in TX in 2nd grade. He became bored and let his grades go.

Stay where you are, if you lose a job here in AZ, your stuck but at least you have a good job in cali. STAY THERE!

On your son, it sounds more like drugs than the school. I'm serious.

If you like Guns, rednecks and religion move here.

We have our son in private school. It's great but we have the means to place him there.

this is an uneducated place. Most people rail against funding education and then wonder why their economy sucks when the real estate market crashes.

there are plenty of church's though. People are intolerant here. Lots of rednecks and Republicans. those two words are interchangable.

People are proud here that someone has the "freedom" to carry an AK 47 to a public engagment (with the president no less). Talk about a lack of common sense.

On the good front. The weather is nice in the winter. We have a lot of great freeways. The city is spread out so you can buy a place for a reasonable amount of money. The crime is decent. Sherrif Joe is hard on criminals (I will leave out he's a racist attention seeking *****). Lots of great golf courses too.

enough to bring you here?

Funny thing is we ran into more "rednecks, gun toting nuts, and religious freaks in northern CA than we have run into here. Sac is a bastian of white trash, especially further up into the foothills. The historic old town and river are full of homless meth heads. Go or stay, do what is best for your family.

They are like the plague then.

I am fortunate that my wife and I have great jobs. We were educated elsewhere (good publicly funded education). But as soon as my kids are raised I'm moving to Portland or Seattle.
