Hey guys,

Long time reader and havent registered until now. My fiance and I have lived in downtown Phoenix for about 3 years (7th and Van Buren). Have never had any problems. We have recently been looking to buy a house and have looked at a couple right off the N 51 at 19th street and Indian School. I know that in central Phoenix you can basically go from a "good area" to a less desirable in less than 3 blocks and in the central Phoenix area its hit basically hit and miss as far as quality/safety/crime etc. I just had a question for anyone familiar with the area. Any problems with the aformentioned?

OT: It looks like a decent area. Weve scoped out the places at night and during the day. Just want to know peoples experiences with the area, if any. Again, I know that you can go from an "ok" area to crappy in just a few blocks.

Thanks in advance

I lived on 32nd and between Thomas and Indian School and would definately say that I would NEVER live over there again.. I lived in an apartment complex for about a year when I didnt have a whole bunch of cash and was a single parent and would walk behind people with guns stuffed in the back of their pants and drunk people asking to have me get them beer... I'm sure there are some nice areas around there but unless I had no other options I would not live out here again. My brother had an apartment around 24th/20th and between Indian Scool and Thomas and had his car stolen after being there for like 3 months.. Sorry to sound so negative, I usually try to stay positive when I post but didnt have good experiences down there.

Would like to add that this was around 2000-2001 time frame if I remember correctly.

Appreciate the quick response.

I am trying not to get discouraged here. We found the perfect house it seems and are about to do the inspection.... And 2000-2001 I can see that. Weve only been here for 3.5 years but my mom used to live here back in the day. Said it used to be REALLY bad in downtown and central Phoenix.

My only concern would be the traffic.

Thanks guys.

Yeah, I mean it cant be any worse than where were at now... 7th ST and Van Buren at Camden Coppersquare. Nice community but a block east on Van B and its not the nicest lol (no offense to anyone who lives around there...)

I think were actually going to pass on that house. Im just not a fan of the area. I wont sacrifice living in a [mod]language[/mod] area just for a house that I want. The more weve driven around it just looks "meh". Will be looking around PV and north a little farther.

Good job on passing on the house. Bad area IMO.

Yeah. I dont know what the hell I was thinking. Ive driven all over there (Indian School, Thomas, Virginia, McDowell etc) and I talk about how bad some of those places are.... I guess I was caught up in the 'we are buying our first house!' excitement and tried to convince myself that it would be ok. Huh... glad I came here.
