Good morning everyone and welcome to QOTD for Tuesday, November 26th 2013. For those who have asked, baby grandson is doing just fine and looking set to receive a swag of booty come Christmas time!

Today’s Question:

When was the last time your car/truck (or one you were a passenger in) broke down on the road/highway? Tell us a little about what happened.

Extra Credit Question:

Have you ever -

Had a backstage pass at a concert or theatre performance?

Asked someone famous for their autograph?

Attended a gathering or party and found you were totally over or under-dressed compared with other attendees?

Worked in a clothing store?

Volunteered at a food pantry/soup kitchen?

Bonus Question:

You’re being asked to take a fresh fruit salad for a thanksgiving meal… what fresh fruit is readily available in your area at this time of year?

Just for fun:

This question was suggested by LuckyLady - thanks LL!

How long do you think you can hold your breathe underwater?

Thought for the Day:

The best way to cheer yourself up is to try to cheer somebody else up. (Mark Twain)

Today Is:

National Cake Day

Worked in a clothing store?

Volunteered at a food pantry/soup kitchen?

Uh gee...I don't know at a moments notice.

Don't know these days...but as a kid we always tested it.

I never had a car broke down on the road, except a flat tire once or twice. Oh, yeah... and once my battery was dead. I left the light on, in the cabin, overnight. The AAA came and charged me an arm and a leg for a new battery.

Extra Credit Question:

Have you ever -

Had a backstage pass at a concert or theatre performance?
Yes. Symphony.

Asked someone famous for their autograph?
Hmmm... maybe when I was very young and such things were worth the trouble.

Attended a gathering or party and found you were totally over or under-dressed compared with other attendees?
Not totally, but maybe slightly. I rather get overdressed than under-dressed. I noticed that people do not care about a dress code when it's required or at least expected. E.g. hate to see people in jeans and t-shirts at a symphony, or theater, or tank top, flip-flops at a nice restaurant. It's so disrespectful.

Worked in a clothing store?
No. Never worked in retail.

Volunteered at a food pantry/soup kitchen?
Yes. Several times.

Bonus Question:

You’re being asked to take a fresh fruit salad for a thanksgiving meal… what fresh fruit is readily available in your area at this time of year?
All kinds. I live in Texas, so fruit is readily available. Citrus, exotic and whatever your heart desire

Hmmm, I have no idea. Maybe 30 seconds?

Today’s Question:

Other than routine dead batteries, I haven't had any type of breakdown for a very long time. The last one was probably back in the 1970s when I was driving a battered, high-mileage VW beetle. My two Honda Accords and the Geo Prizm have all been exceptionally reliable.

Extra Credit Question:

Have you ever -

Had a backstage pass at a concert or theatre performance? No

Asked someone famous for their autograph? Not to their face; I am much too shy. I stood in line at a record store for an autographed Luciano Pavarotti LP and got autographed pictures of Dustin Hoffman and Gene Kelly by writing them fan letters. But in person, I'd never ask.

Attended a gathering or party and found you were totally over or under-dressed compared with other attendees?
When I was dating my first husband, he was a society columnist for the local newspaper. We went to a lot of swanky events that he was covering, and I was always a little brown wren compared to the glamorous, expensively dressed and groomed socialites. But it didn't bother me since I wasn't technically a guest, I was accompanying a journalist covering the event.
Worked in a clothing store?
No, I'd be terrible at dealing with customers.

Volunteered at a food pantry/soup kitchen?
No, I've donated money and food but haven't actually volunteered.

Bonus Question:

You’re being asked to take a fresh fruit salad for a thanksgiving meal… what fresh fruit is readily available in your area at this time of year?
We can get just about anything here, but for Thanksgiving I would like to bring a pear, cranberry and walnut salad with bleu cheese. I also like old-fashioned Waldorf salads, but DH doesn't care for them.

Just for fun:

How long do you think you can hold your breathe underwater?
Oh, gosh, I don't know. Maybe a minute and a half? Even though I exercise regularly, my lungs aren't as good as they used to be because I'm older now and also because I was a smoker for thirteen years.

Thank you, Kobber!

I did a brief stint as a bellhop in my youth. I was taking a celebrity to the airport and we had a blowout on the way. I had to endure a barrage of complaints and slurs as we waited for another limo to arrive (the celebrity missed his flight - ).

Extra Credit Question:

Have you ever -

Had a backstage pass at a concert or theatre performance?

Not hardly

Asked someone famous for their autograph?

Why would I want someone's autograph?

Attended a gathering or party and found you were totally over or under-dressed compared with other attendees?

I'm always under-dressed.

Worked in a clothing store?

Nope

Volunteered at a food pantry/soup kitchen?

Nope - but I wouldn't hesitate to join-in if they needed me.

Bonus Question:

Cackle-fruit, pears, and apples.

Just for fun:

How long do you think you can hold your breath underwater?

Until I drown.

Today’s Question:

When was the last time your car/truck (or one you were a passenger in) broke down on the road/highway? Tell us a little about what happened. I didn't break down, I simply ran out of gas as the gas gauge didn't work right. I called Mr. Chickie and he couldn't take off work ---- horrible thing but I called my ex-husband who lived about 3 blocks away and he brought me gas.

Extra Credit Question:

Have you ever -

Had a backstage pass at a concert or theatre performance? Yes.

Asked someone famous for their autograph? While in Boston, I went to a party for the Boston Celtics and got Larry Bird's signature as well as Kevin Gamble. Kevin was from our nearest city and his brother was my mail guy at my company.

Attended a gathering or party and found you were totally over or under-dressed compared with other attendees? yes

Worked in a clothing store? no

Volunteered at a food pantry/soup kitchen? Yes...and I was on the board of directors for the food pantry also.

Bonus Question:

You’re being asked to take a fresh fruit salad for a thanksgiving meal… what fresh fruit is readily available in your area at this time of year? Anything in the frozen fruit aisle.

Don't jinx me. The transmission went on a car that only had 856 miles on it. It was a Ford Focus, the worst new car I ever had. I don't remember the details of the car dying but I do remember the crappy service I received from the Ford dealership in Annapolis, MD where it went to be fixed. The place where I leased the car was too far away from where it broke down so I couldn't take it there and the Service manager in Annapolis gave me the business with stall tactics because I didn't lease my car from them. I don't recall what year it was but it was the first year the Focus came on the market. The second week I had it the knob fell off the radio. I tell everyone I see to this day that the Focus is junk and I always leased Escorts or Tauruses in MD, both of which I loved and were dependable.

Extra Credit Question:

Have you ever -

Had a backstage pass at a concert or theatre performance?

No

Asked someone famous for their autograph?

Oh sure. NY Yankees and NHL hockey players, TV stars.

Attended a gathering or party and found you were totally over or under-dressed compared with other attendees?

I don't think so but I probably wouldn't notice or remember.

Worked in a clothing store?

Yes.

Volunteered at a food pantry/soup kitchen?

No

Bonus Question:

I have no idea how to make fruit salad. It seems you can have the same fruit all year long. It just comes from different places depending on the time of year like oranges from another country. I buy red grapes all year long for me and the birds I feed. The last package of red grapes purchased came from California.
