It is nice. There are new riverfront apartments to the north of the site. And future development directly adjacent. An Indigo Hotel is getting started this summer a block away. And PPD headquarters are just above the site.
Wilmington voters turned down a more expensive minor league baseball stadium and approved a bond for this event space/permanent fixture to Downtown Wilmington. It will be a signature park that will be utilized for Azalea Festival Concerts as well. This year a few blocks away they had concerts with Ludacris, Billy Currington and 38 Special. Last year Snoop Dogg, Carrie Underwood in the past.
Live Nation will bring in national acts on a regular basis during the Spring, Summer and Fall. Azalea Festival will likely kick off the concert season. It is unknown at this point whether the summer concert series that is held on Water St in front of the Federal Courthouse across from the battleship, will be moved to this space. That concert series on Friday nights usually involves cover bands, it is free, and regularly draws 1,500-2,000. The new park will have capacity for about 10,000.
