Agreed with wawaweewa. There are many stops that should be eliminated in the system. The 1 train in Manhattan---23rd and 28th? One of you has to go and I vote 28th as it doesn't connect to anything. Penn is 5 blocks. 28th on the 6 should probably be axed for the same reason.

The R train that I try my best to avoid in favor of the express bus---going to Bay Ridge, DeKalb has got to go. It's .4 miles to Jay Street, .5 to Atlantic Terminal. 53rd is a marginal stop between 45 and 59.

Some bigwigs must have lived on 28th Street long ago (East and West) when these two stops were mandated. Throw out 18th Street on the #1 train as well.
Subways were not meant to make bus or trolley stops.

I'm a fan of first building a new station off the J/M/Z line on Union St right over and connecting with the Broadway G train stop that currently comes underneath the tracks (but is magically not connected at all to the J/M/Z). Once that is built and actually opened for service, then eliminate the Hewes and Lorimer stops.

Maybe keep the stations and platforms for one or both of them, but put a transparent barrier between the platforms and the tracks and then rent out the stations to some bougie-ass restaurant and make some money. Or a tiny branch of the Transit museum (like the way the main branch is a converted underground subway stop, this branch can be a converted elevated stop)?

Its obvious he doesn't live in brooklyn.. those stations located in a very dense neighborhood, what they should really get rid of is the freaking C line that goes all the way to far rockaway. Tourist need to learn to get a taxi to get to JFK.

What. I think you mean A train if you're talking about heading to JFK.

Do you know how many people work at JFK? You want them to take taxis to work everyday? That's pretty harsh, guy.

Connecting to airports is exactly what the system should be doing...lol. Seriously, anyone who has traveled extensively overseas can see that our big cities here in the USA are way behind in planning and interconnecting transit. We're a lumbering dinosaur.

I agree that the 28th stations are useless. They could probably do away with some of the South Brooklyn stops as well.

I'm not so sure about the 28th st stations. They still have a pretty high ridership. The 6 line station is the 55th busiest on weekdays, the 1 is 96th and the N/R is 119th. If those get closed, you're going to divert people to the 23rd and 34th St stations. The 34th St stops are crowded enough as it is.

There was a 18th street on the 6 train that did get eliminated.
