Meh. Despite Sandy, I still feel that forecasters tend to be alarmists, and I'm always irritated by their parental-type advice. When people complain about the nanny-state aspects of Bloomberg, I'm surprised they don't complain about media weather people piping, "Better bring an umbrella today!" or "Experts advise wearing layers."
Better safe than sorry. I'd rather be alarmed than trapped in bad weather and killed. I should have evacuated from my place in Far Rockaway before Sandy came. I didn't think it would be that bad. It was that bad. I will never have a permanent residence on the beach again, as I think hurricanes are becoming more frequent.
Also, the damage from Sandy has yet to be assessed and we won't know the full effects of it for a couple of years, and that's if we don't have another damaging storm. There have been huge effects on real estate in coastal NY.
New York City's Official PlowNYC Website. The purpose of this Website is to allow the public to: (1) track the progress of DSNY spreader/plow vehicles; and (2) confirm the snow designation of City streets (i.e., primary, secondary, tertiary, or non-DSNY) (collectively, "Data"): NYCityMap DoITT City-Wide GIS
Please don't call it Nemo. Ugh. I hate the weather channel for this. There's no reason to name a winter storm. Leave that to the NWS. And have you seen their website? An utter joke. Red, capital scrolling letters, exclamation marks, alarmist bull crap.
