So, because there is crime all over the country, that means you can't appreciate the crap the men & women of the NYPD have to deal with everyday in that cesspool????? You may not appreciate it, but I do.
I was thinking the same exact thing. I wouldn't want to walk down one of those stairwells, nevermind having to work in those conditions.
I have always appreciated their work, because I live in these types of neighborhoods. So I know what they deal with on a daily basis = why I have no "wow I appreciate them now" sense. And you don't have to live in these communities, if you simply watched ANY episode of COPS you would know cops across the country go through the same things (and worse) everywhere and it is not unique to NYC.
Whitlock? If they manage to survive? More fearmongering I see.....I think if 5 cops are killed in the line of duty out of the 35,000, that would be an extremely bad year. They survive, as do the people who live in these communities.

I don't think I have to convince anyone who is looking at these pics that this ain't no safe job.
You are living in your own South Bronx "paradise" where you have excluded all negativity, that you refuse to see.
I live in the reality that is the South Bronx, not on a compound surrounded by moats and attack dogs. And the reality is we "manage" to survive just fine..unless of course you enjoy hanging out with the homeys at the bodega at 3am....then you are very likely to run into problems.
As for cops, nobody said their job is easy, fun, or not life-threatening...but the idea that they are dropping like flies anywhere in NYC is nonsense. It is rare for a cop to even discharge his weapon, let alone die...so let's stop the fear mongering.
Unexperienced rookie cops on foot patrol around projects in Operation Impact zones are at an extremely high risk of getting killed. I did not say "they are dropping like flies".
Could it be that you are worried that I might be discouraging people to join the NYPD?
Anyways, I think we can all agree that the photos are very good. So much emotions and reality captured.
But of course we can start a whole new philosophical discussion of how to define "reality".

Whitlock..please site your source that Rookie Cops enlisted in the Operation Impact initiative are at "extremely high risk of getting killed." The fact is it is the extremely rare case for ANY cop to even discharge a weapon, let alone die. I am looking forward to the source for your assertion, as I suspect it is simply "what you think."
What I am "worried" about is the usual misinformation spread on these forums, and people who actually believe such nonsense.
