Great flick... based on Edward Abbey's early novel "The Brave Cowboy"... a real labor of love for Douglas...
But no great NM movie list is complete without "Convoy"!
Based on the reviews coming in, "No Country for Old Men" will be a contender for best NM film... The NM premier is this Wed in LV
Film NM has a pretty good list of movies shot in NM at

I can't wait. I did find it sort of weird that NCFOM was apparently mostly shot in ABQ, rather than WT, where most of it takes place. The novel was really good!

About 75% of "No Country..." was shot in Las Vegas and area. Some in ABQ and a a couple of weeks in/around Marfa, TX. I know this 'cause I spent about 10 weeks in daily contact with with the film crew...
Big reason shot here: the Coens hired crew in SF and ABQ who commuted daily to LV- Coens didn't have to pay lodging or per diem... in Marfa, they had to pay hotel and per diem for everyone... they saved millions doing principal shooting here. The countryside about 20 miles east of LV is a pretty good stand in for Presidio County.

Hang'em High was filmed partly in Cruces too, you can see the Dona Ana's in the background of the opening sequence. I've drank a beer or two under that same tree!
They filmed Hang'em High when I was a kid. I finally saw the movie on DVD a few years ago, and can't believe it's supposed to be Oklahoma. I have never seen anywhere in OK that looks like the Chihuahuan desert of southern NM.
I'm hearing traffic reports more and more often that include that some street is closed due to a "movie shoot." This is going to get kinda annoying if the "movie industry" ends up moving to NM in force.
