My personal favorite movie shot in New Mexico is "Two Lane Black Top"........ (1971)....starring Dennis Wilson, James Taylor and Warren Oates ...it was partially filmed in Santa Fe and the "gas station" scene was shot in Tucumcari... along with other non NM locations ...such as Needles,CA and Flagstaff,AZ .....James Taylor wasn't the best actor in the world and after making this movie pretty much stuck to singing and songwriting ...Beach Boy Dennis Wilson was abit better ...but Warren Oates was amazing !! ...I love his acting in this movie ..so natural ....gotta love those cars too ...1970 455 HO GTO and '55 Chevy....same one Harrison Ford drove in American Graffitti !!
I want to THANK YOU for this post. I heard that the Two Lane Blacktop scene at the drive in was Burt's Burger Bowl and the first race was either on Airport Road or at least that's what they said in the script.
Remember the vulture scene in Wild Hogs? Exactly.
