South valley Gal had it right: you don't have to like, but you do need to be tolerant, as it is everywhere!

Don't forget Kokopelli everywhere, at least, everywhere there are New Age-y women.
I personally love the zia symbol- have loved it since I first saw it in 1972.

Well you guys have gone and done it now!!!!

I'm gonna to have to come out there and see me some of them pueblos made out of
turquoisie and homosexually handkerchiefed coyotes and whatnot. Maybe even get me
one o' them Pheee-Loss-Oh-Fee Majors from the University as a date!

And of course get an earful of that wonderfully accepting,
light hearted and self deprecating sense of humor this thread has been chock full of!

Seriously though, I'm moving to Albuquerque.
(maybe)...and you have no one to blame but yourselves.

Lovehound:
No offense but I prefer to get my definitions from a dictionary:
Quote:
sal·sa (säls)
n.
1. A spicy sauce of chopped, usually uncooked vegetables or fruit, especially tomatoes, onions, and chili peppers, used as a condiment.
salsa - definition of salsa by the Free Online Dictionary, Thesaurus and Encyclopedia.
And even your wiki link said:
Quote:
...often tomato based...
AND the title of the link is: Salsa (sauce)
(....as opposed to: Salsa (music))
...which is what this particular side alley of an already curious thread was all about, right?
Someone calling me out because I referenced Green Chile as a sauce.

Hmmmm note to self: never argue food with a cook.

S.Valley Girl:
Be still my heart... you had me at 'Serious answer'.
The rest was just gravy. Wonderful.... wonderful gravy.

Everyone else: Thank you for your support and wise, wonderful answers, I am not hurt,
...though I must warn the young not to attempt this at home.

So..........(ahem).................who's got a couch I can crash on for the next three years?

My jar of Green Chile purchased at El Pinto clearly says Green Chile SAUCE. It's not their salsa (condiment) but the sauce they sell for enchiladas, eggs, etc.

When I order a bowl of Green Chili it is more like a stew. Maybe I am confusing chili and chile. I think it takes green chiles to make green chili.

Karen's Classic Old-Fashioned New Mexico Green Chili

Chili is Tex-Mex slop that Tejanos eat--unless someone occasionally misspells "chile," as appears to be the case above. Chiles are the general types of peppers from which New Mexico chile (green or red) is made. Chile can be a stew or a sauce or a topping for enchiladas, burritos, etc.--e.g.,burrito smothered in green chile. I make a mean green chile stew, and I love stacked green chile enchiladas with a fried egg on top--the flagship dish of northern New Mexico.

I think y'all are splitting hairs. Technically, salsa is the Spanish word for sauce, so they are interchangeable in NM where English and Spanish are sprinkled together liberally.

I've been addicted to almost everything related to native NM culture from the first moment I stepped into New Mexico.
It is the Land of Enchantment and a blessed piece of real estate at that.

Now if they could only get us some shoreline /w ocean view up here, life would be perfect

PS:
OTP ->Do I *have* to like pastels, howling coyote pendants and indian feathers if I want to move to New Mexico?
If you dislike those, then why bother moving to NM? You don't *have* to like 'em, but it sure would help ;-)
