Thank you LACarole! Welcome to the board and I hope you can make it up here during the fall but the quiet winter is very unique as well! Actually a I Louisiana! It is a beautiful state and I once went fishing there but all I caught was Cat Fish!

I"ve never been there in the fall--must do that this year, as well as get a picture of the view just before Mont Vernon Road. You know, the diner could be in Mont Vernon, or even Milford just down the road... you may be on to something there
You are right on the money Val! That fall picture is at the cemetery during the fall! I did not take it, as it came from Google Images! But yes, this may be the spot of the diner! and the Egg Creams!!

I would love others to post pictures of Mont Vernon, Amherst and Milford! These three communities are so beautiful especially during the fall.

Ok, here are a few of Milford.

It has a nice town square - although DH considers the traffic too busy for his tastes and all the roads coming in kinda confuses him (he's just not used to it). It has a gazebo in it
http://www.newhampshire.com/doclib/towns/Milford.jpg (broken link)

This looks like a shop that faces the square

Here's some foliage

Milford has a lot more developments, though - not all quaint old houses.

And they seem to have a pumpkin festival

Oh- I think I mentioned my mom used to live on Purgatory Rd( never mind - that was next door in Mont Vernon)? well, here is Purgatory Falls.

don't know why the pumpkin pic wasn't coming out - I'll try again. Seems to take place on the town square.

Comet, I have to know what an egg cream is!! Is sounds rich and decadent and delicious! We are trying to plan a trip in each of the seasons over the next 2 1/2 years so that we can get a true taste of what each is like, but with my husband's job lately, it's been kind of tough to nail things down. Supposedly by the end of December things are to settle down, so maybe 2009 will be our year of dream trips. I so enjoy seeing all the gorgeous pics, I can hardly wait to take some of my own! I'll definitely let y'all know when we do finalize our plans - I'm hoping once we get the dates settled that maybe y'all can help us with places to stay, eat, drive through, etc. We will want to make the most of each of our trips for sure!

LACarole - At one of the "Rock & Roll jams" up here, we met a gal with a distinct accent - come to find out she was from Louisiana! She's lived up here (Littleton/Grafton County) for 4 years and loves it - she especially loves the snow, which I found amazing - I would have thought it would have been hard for her to get used to the snow and the cold, but she said she was in 7th Heaven during the winter and loves the snow and cold

Anne & I just spent a wonderful weekend in Landaff, NH with her sister that was visiting from Anchorage, Alaska and the sister that lives in Landaff (just uphill from Lisbon which is south of Littleton on Rt 10). It was Old Home Day weekend and they had an auction for the Fire Department of all sorts of misc junk and a few real antique gems. That evening they had a pot luck dinner in the Town Hall. Good food and good people.

I almost started to relax. I could neither see nor smell the air; unlike getting off the bus in Boston this morning. We had a wonderful time in a real small NH town.

Darn! I had forgotten about that! We were going to go - Did you hear the Parker Hill Road Band? I can't remember what time they were supposed to play, sometime in the afternoon, I think.

Happy to hear you had a good time!
