well now....THIS is interesting news. not exactly a "hey, come visit nye county" type of thing but wowsers

lamar odom, former nba player & ex-husband of khloe kardashian, found unconscious at brothel earlier today. early reports say he spent the last couple of days partying at the love ranch in crystal, which is ~30 mins north of pahrump. because of his height, he wasn't able to be air lifted from pahrump to vegas, so the ambulance had to drive him the 60 miles into town.

it'll be interesting to see what is reported in the papers or on news channels in the next couple of days.

we arrived in beatty friday afternoon, 2:30ish. saw some amazing clouds on the way up - reminded me of home actually. the way they creeped over the mtns made me think of the evening fog that would roll in from the coast

https://www.flickr.com/photos/104366...7659716404548/

looked like we were gonna hit rain in amargosa, but we didn't
https://www.flickr.com/photos/104366...7659716404548/

in fact, we had no rain at all friday afternoon. friday night we had some sprinkles about 10pm. then again at 11pm. then nothing until about 4am & then it was a downpour. we weren't sure if the trip was still on & i had visions of jeeping thru nothing but a mud pit (o gawd, all that mud IN the jeep with me!). we showed up to the starting point & the party was still happening. there were a lot more people out this year than last year. last year i think there were maybe 75 participants. this year i'm guessing there were closer to 150. and they came from everywhere - vegas, beatty, pahrump, goldfield & carson city!

we had some creepy crawly clouds at the starting point, but not a drop fell all day long. it wasn't too hot, it wasn't too cold. surprisingly, the ground wasn't the soupy mud pit i had in my head. occasionally there would be a mudpuddle, but nothing bad. it was basically the same route as last year, so i tried to get pics of things i didn't get last time.
https://www.flickr.com/photos/104366...7659716404548/

someone was SERIOUSLY into his jeep, the owner said he had about $45k into it. the best feature:
https://www.flickr.com/photos/104366...7659716404548/

the recent rain actually enhanced this trip. the rocks had more color, so did the plants. here are some of the amazing rock formations we saw along the way:
https://www.flickr.com/photos/104366...7659716404548/
https://www.flickr.com/photos/104366...7659716404548/

https://www.flickr.com/photos/104366...7659716404548/

at one point we stopped to oogle at the rocks & i saw something i had never seen before. FOAM! FOAM from ROCKS! i'm used to sea foam, so i thought this might be similiar. no way, no how. the water had dribbled down from the upper rocks & when it reached the sandy bottom, it created a puddle of foam which at first glance looked like a mudpuddle. the top layer of the foam was extremely dry, the bottom was wet. but both layers were a little gritty, from fine sand particals. it didn't smell like sea foam does. it was the most bizarre thing i've ever seen.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/104366...7659716404548/

at one point i stopped to get some pictures of an old mine surrounded by blazing orange rocks & found an interesting thing inside the mine

https://www.flickr.com/photos/104366...7659716404548/

and we can't forget the petroglyphs along the way! not so old petroglyphs:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/104366...7659716404548/

probably a little older than the petroglyphs above:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/104366...7659716404548/

no winning hands from us, in fact....we had about the same as last year
https://www.flickr.com/photos/104366...7659716404548/

in the end, it was a muddy good time!
https://www.flickr.com/photos/104366...7659716404548/

we've been told they are putting together a completely different course next year. i know i will be there, maybe some of you will join me?

and for those of you looking for a job, there's also a job fair happening this weekend

"the grove" is the one & only medical marijuana dispensary that nye county will have. it hasn't opened quite yet - early 2016 is the only date we've heard so far. they have been busy getting the building up to snuff...including all kinds of security cameras on the outside of the building, which is located kitty corner to the sheriff's dept.

"the grove" is holding a job fair saturday october 24 from 10am - 2pm. they are looking to fill a number of positions - manager, intake personnel & budtenders. applicants must be over 21 yrs old, no felony convictions, computer literate & have excellent customer service skills.

Cool pics from Beatty cre8lite. Thanks for posting.

We finally got up to Carpenter Canyon this weekend and got to check it out. Definately a cool place to see for those people who have a four wheel drive vehicle or an ohv. Some areas of the road were washed out from all the rain but we made it through just fine in our truck. The trail gets pretty tight with bushes the last three miles.
