Rosamund Pike's performance was worth the price alone, but the film itself was excellent although very difficult to watch at times. I'd be surprised if she doesn't get an Oscar nomination.

Widows.

Good drama. Not an action movie.

I was just about to say.... I last saw "Widows."

I don't even think it was that good a drama. It was long, drawn out, unengaging, and Viola Davis looks and acts like a man.

Not a good movie. Skip.

I think it was a very good drama from a woman's point of view, and quite good from a man's point of view, if he has his head screwed on right.

It was not an action movie, despite what the trailer's might show, and it's got a couple of good twists. The characters that initially appear to be the primary antagonists are shown to be more layered than expected.

One of several points I liked about the movie is when the lead character Veronica discovers her late husband's notebook and realizes it contains the detailed plan for the intended next heist (which will be enough to pay off the gangsters), she doesn't immediately know exactly what it's telling her.

She doesn't even know what the intended target is. It's like a pirate's map. A significant portion of the movie is figuring out what the notebook is even telling them and how to use the information it contains. Oh, and they only have 30 days to pull off the heist before the gangster sends his scary-azz psycho enforcer after them.

There was a blueprint of the target...but what kind of building is it? Where is it? Is it a store? An office? A bank? They search the Internet, search the library and still don't know...it must have been a private design never made public. How in the world are they going to figure that out?

There is, for instance, an envelope of pictures of an older man in flagrante delicto in a hotel room with an obviously minor girl. Who is this man, and how were the pictures intended to fit into the heist plan?
