Comedies never seem very funny the second time around, so maybe the test of a good comedy is, if you still think it's funny the second time you see itl. Last night I saw "Last
Action Hero" again and it was still funny. "Airplane" stays funny, too.
For about the first ten times I saw "Airplane," I think I still found something new that I missed each of the other times. That movie still cracks me up, and I can recite almost the entire script.

Glad to see a little more John Candy mentioned here. He's probably my favorite comedian of that generation. I loved every one of the movies I saw him in. PT&A, Great Outdoors, Wagons East, Uncle Buck, Spaceballs, and even Home Alone.
Steve Martin is another of my favorites. I've loved most of the ones I've seen him in, too, but one of the most memorable is Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.
A couple more movies I didn't see mentioned earlier, that I thought were hilarious, were Grumpy Old Men and Grumpier Old Men. The comedic talents of Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau were great in those movies.
I'm also surprised that I didn't see many animated movies listed. The Shrek series had me laughing continuously. Most of the Pixar movies (such as Toy Story, Cars, The Incredibles, and Monsters, Inc.) had a lot of humor in them, too.
I also thought The Princess Bride, The Quiet Man, and McLintock were incredibly funny.
Like many others on this forum, I can't narrow my choices down to just five movies. There are lots of funny movies out there, even though some of them weren't identified as comedies. Many of my favorites have been listed in this thread, but I'm sure there are others that have been forgotten.
I know 48 HRS is not technically a comedy, but the scene where the bartender tells Eddie Murphy that "Maybe you best have a Black Russian" now that's damn funny!
Office Space
History of the World, Part I
BASEketball (it's just so wrong...)
Airplane!
Caddyshack
Christmas Vacation
Spaceballs
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
-Fargo
-Tin Men
-Mickey Blue Eyes
-Oh Brother Where Art Thou? (and wins for top music track, too)
-My Uncle Vinnie
