I agree completely. Out of all the disturbing films I've ever seen, this one left the biggest impression on me. It's certainly more compelling than the "just say no" ads or any of the antidrug crap in the media.
Also, it was heartbreaking to the think about how lonely his mother must have been. I guess her TV and chocolate addictions were coping mechanisms.

Sounds pretty creepy! Released 1976. Synopsis: A hooded murderer stalks the streets of Texarkana, Arkansas, terrifying the small town's populace. Based on actual events which occured during a three-month period of 1946.
Starring: Ben Johnson, Andrew Prine, Dawn Wells, Charles B. Pierce (info from rottentomatoes.com)
Speaking of Ellen Page, I didn't sleep right for a few days after watching "An American Crime"
Who could ? That movie was horrible and really hard to watch.
Thank god it was a "Hollywood" film because they left out lots of other horrible things that woman did to the poor girl.
Catherine Keener did a good job.
Reading about the story is even more horrifying.
I remember that movie. Its definitely part of this list...lol
Larry Clark has directed lots of disturbing films.
A lot of his films should be on this list
