I thought about that because recently, I posted something about the comic book version of Hive/Alveus(which I didn't even know existed), so therefore, the comic book version of Hive/Alveus could be very similar to the AOS version. And which coincidentally could be very similar to Apocalypse. Or at least the movie version of Apocalypse since I don't know anything about the comic book version.(Other than the little bit of the television cartoon version of Apocalypse that I saw in the 1990s that I really don't remember too much about.)
Always have been plenty of apocalyptically themed movies. The trend is certainly up it would seem.
Well, after seeing the portal in the sky in The Avengers, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, and Men in Black 3, I thought that I was watching the same movie.
I finally got round to watching this last night. I liked it, but I didn't love it.
The movie's chief flaw is that it had absolutely no subtext. Everything was right on the surface and in your face. This often resulted in some really bad dialogue.
It was all plot and very little character. The movie was trying so hard to balance Charles, Magneto, Mystique, Apocalypse, Storm, Cyclops, Jean Grey, Quicksilver, etc., etc., etc. that none of them were fully developed. The movie bit off more than it could chew. The events of this story really needed a 10 hour mini-series, not a 2 hour movie.
Quicksilver yet again stole every scene he was in.
And I am baffled that Olivia Munn is not in more movies. She is a stunningly beautiful woman.
Why is there a little kid in that pic? Shane Black loves his casts with the token little kid. Every time that happens, we get something like Iron Man 3.

I'm not inherently opposed to kids in movies. JAWS, ALIENS, THE EXORCIST, TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD, THE SIXTH SENSE, LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE ... all great movies with kids in prominent roles. And I am a major fanboy of STRANGER THINGS.
Now, if you're arguing that Shane Black is a bit of a hack ... well, you'll get no argument from me.
I recently saw this movie again on DVD, and even though I still don't particularly like this movie, I can see how Bryan Singer really tried to make this an epic, blockbuster movie... But it just didn't work. It's just not a great movie.
Also, I thought that the Quicksilver scene was a bit ostentatious(with Quicksilver moonwalking and everything) as if Singer was very proud of the Quicksilver scene in Days of Future Past and tried to duplicate it and make it even better.
But I think that one of the major hurtles in this movie were the X-Men themselves. Because for 15 years we had a cast that we came to know and love... however, I did not particularly love this new younger cast for this movie.

I liked the new Jean Grey a lot. The rest ... ? Yeah, none of them stood out.

The new storm was pretty much a horseman and that's it till the end. Nightcrawler was kind of developed. Jubilee was hardly used sadly. Cyclops was not given much time to evolve due to wrapping up stories from First Class on. This movie had a blank canvas but didn't really. Maybe they should just put X-Men in the Deadpool/X-Force timeline rather than X-Men Supernova...
