Sad. The child drownings are easier to understand but then my next question is why wasn't an adult there??

This one is getting crazy:

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nbc...2404392/%3Famp

Happened at the home of a former state trooper who was running for office for something. Victim is black, cop/home owner is white so I'm sure that's striking a nerve with some folks.

Too large a gathering + alcohol + water = likely bad outcome.

I read that the teen at the Dedham party wasn't drinking. No idea what is the truth. I'm guessing he started struggling and everyone else was too drunk to notice.

Since the parents decided to serve alcohol they really should have been paying better attention

Worthwhile for any of us around the water to read: https://www.ajc.com/lifestyles/healt...gfHI1nBWOVK0J/

Here's a video as well:

Drowning doesn't look like the movies and can happen super quickly. While people experiencing distress may splash around and yell, people who are drowning aren't able to do so because they're not getting enough oxygen to scream. If the person jumping in to save them isn't a trained lifeguard and doesn't have some kind of floaty, they're at risk too because someone who is drowning is running 100% on instinct and will try to push the person getting them down so they can get a breath.

There should also always be someone whose only job is to watch people swimming and everyone should know who that is. So often, we hear after a child drowns "I thought someone else was watching the kids." Because drowning is so often quiet, it's not something most people would notice if they weren't looking for it - especially at a crowded beach or pool.

Just because a death happens in water, doesn't mean its a drowning. The BF of a schoolmate of mine died in Walden Pond. He didn't drown.

Since he is older I guess there could have been another issue like a stroke or heart attack that happened. The article does say 'drowning' though.

I was a lifeguard in an apartment complex where there were a lot of old people. I would be so nervous everytime an elderly person came to swim because I feared they'd have a medical issue in the pool. Thankfully no one ever did.

I'm surprised they have the autopsy that soon. The pieces I saw on it called it a drowning in the headline, which is different from the article. But we will see. I'd be surprised if there wasn't an aneurysm, heart attack, stroke or something else involved.
