I thought we would have a rapid 10 min test that could be purchased individually and used at home by now.

For example
https://covidrapidtest.com/

Have the sniffles? Head to your medicine cabinet and give yourself a test.

Obviously it would need to be scaled down to make it more cost effective ($725 for 25 tests in the above kit), and be able to be used by individuals and not professionals.

Yes, exactly! I'd be happy to make that part of our morning routine. "Take your test, brush your teeth, and grab your backpacks before we leave!"

All over the news they're saying the CDC is telling states to prepare to distribute a vaccine on November 1.

Well, I guess it's better to give an early deadline and have states start preparing now so that they are actually ready by Feb 1 or March 1 (or whenever)...Considering how messed up our response has been,it wouldn't be surprising that we have a vaccine early next year, but no way to distribute it on a large scale (there is the separate issue that some of the vaccines require *very* special handling!). The only way to have a vaccine by Nov is to cut short the Phase 3 trials.
In other news, 1/3 of college football students with covid end up with myocarditis (heart inflammation). So much for covid not being serious for young people. https://www.centredaily.com/sports/c...245448050.html
I wonder what long-term effects opening colleges and high schools is going to have on the younger generation.

Zero chance I touch a vaccine in 2020. If they are rushing it because of Trump, it'd be best to wait.

Yep. And he'll deliver it wearing a cape. Trump, ah-ah, he'll save every one of us! Apologies to Freddie Mercury.

Trump is really twisting arms at the FDA. He has already accused them of being part of the "Deep State", and says they are holding off on approving a vaccine to make him look bad! Imagine that you are the head of the FDA, or work in vaccine approval there, when the president of the United States is telling the country that :-(. Meanwhile, the FDA doesn't even have anything to approve. No vaccines have completed Phase III trials, and only two of them are in Phase III trials.
