Hospitalizations look like they are trending downward now. Was flat for awhile.

I definitely gained in 2020. But then all but completely gave up alcohol and bought a Peloton and now I am in much better shape, in many ways (mentally, physically, emotionally). I also started learning French as a pandemic project. Working from home has definitely given me more time to exercise, that's for sure. I just had to get into a real routine with it.

I also gained weight. Just more access to food in my kitchen, no more chasing trains and walk to work from train. I like wfh but I had more discipline when I went into the office.

Covid actually motivated me to lose weight and get in shape. Dropped 20 pounds, started running (would walk on my treadmill during WFH meetings) and lowered my blood pressure to a level my doc was happy with. I feel good too.

Every since i've gone back to office, less time to run or walk on treadmill, so i've been trying to go for daily jobs at lunch, but that will get harder to do as it gets colder.

Good for you! The routine is key.

I went through a few waves at the start of the pandemic. When it was going to be "two weeks to flatten the curve," I ate a lot of junk and drank more than I should have. But by about mid-April when it was clear this was a longer-term thing, I shifted gears. I ditched the junk food, limited the beer to one or two on Friday and Saturday, started cooking every week night, and started doing a pre-work workout and a 3-4 mile post-work walk with my fiancee. We were also doing a lot more active/outdoor things for fun. We've even "officially" began pursuing the NH48 (we have 8 complete over 2 years, so not exactly a breakneck pace). By fall 2020, I was in the best shape I had been in since college when I was a 2-sport athlete. Then in November, I had a foot injury that kept me off of my feet for 6 weeks. It cut into the ski season and definitely snapped me out of my routine. It took another 6 weeks or so to get back into a rhythm and by that point, I had definitely gained some back. I'm pretty close to where I was in fall 2020, but not quite. The routine is certainly better, but the lifting of restrictions this past spring meant we were mixing in more unhealthy fun (breweries, restaurants, etc.) with the hiking and outdoor adventures than we were in summer 2020.

If I'm being honest, this lifestyle is more realistic (and sustainable) than the summer 2020 one, but we're both doing much better with weight, activity, and diet than we were prior to the pandemic and I have no intention of going back to those ways. The flexibility with work certainly helps.

What’s funny many things they say are in fact 100% valid, just not stated in the most palatable way. But then you also have abortion, anti-vaxxing and extreme bible-thumping which drives away a whole lot of people who would have otherwise agreed with many of their ideas.
