If you doubt what I'm saying, check out the death stats for India (where Delta originated). And according to many sources, you can multiply the India death stats by 10 to get a more accurate picture. Delta was killing like 40,000 people every day for a while in India. The original was only killing a small fraction of that.

Lambda (in Peru, I think) is supposed to be stronger than Delta...and the vaccines are supposedly even less effective against it.

This virus has mutated thousands of times. A virus can become weaker or stronger when it mutates.
By the way, just easy virus stuff is that if a virus is more transmissible it really can't be more deadly. If it kills the host fast, then it can't get to another host. So if they say delta is more transmissible it makes little to no sense for it to be more deadly. Just look at the joke case numbers and see that deaths haven't increased at all.

But if your scared stay at home and weaken your immune system while everyone else is living life and doing fine.

You need to do more research about what happened in India. They thought they had COVID beat. It was almost non-existent there before Delta. Within a couple weeks, they didn't know where to put all the dead bodies.

India's Pandemic Death Toll Estimated At About 4 Million: 10 Times The Official Count

I'm awed by your analysis.

It's more deadly because it's 3x to 4x more transmissible than the original COVID-19. If the mortality rate is unchanged from the original virus but 3x more people contract the disease, it's 3x more deadly.

My conjecture is that the severity of the disease is related to viral load. The more virus you inhale, the more likely it is that it overwhelms your immune system and you have severe illness. It's been well documented that Delta results in much higher viral loads. I think that is why the body count has been increasing exponentially over the last month. Therefore, I've chosen to wear an N95 mask to try to limit the viral load I'm exposed to.

...and I haven't had a cold in 18 months. It's been nice.

You're off with that analysis. It's true that once the host is dead, then the virus in that host is essentially at a dead end as well. However, the host really only needs to survive long enough to transmit the fast-reproducing virus in their body to other people. Once they've done that for the virus, they can die. They don't need to survive indefinitely. Viruses do not depend on host survival to succeed.

And the data shows that deaths bottomed out at about 185 deaths/day in early July, and we're currently running about 500 deaths/day and rising.

Stop scaring people. Start taking care of yourself and your health and stop living in fear. I still know more you have died from the vaccine than died of covid.
More have died from the vaccine than from Covid? Sorry, that's beyond irrational. This drivel belongs on GETTR, not City-Data.

R value and fatality are two different things. Moreover the vaccine has not killed more than the virus
No vaccine has.

Absolutely right.

Here's the latest from DPH. 0.002% death rate in MA among the vaccinated. Note the median age of 82.5...lending even less credence to the notion of any causality from the vaccine. Those who claim the vaccine kills people don't even deserve the courtesy of being heard...their stance is what's killing people.

FYI...MA reports this data once per week in the daily vaccination report on Tuesdays. We should see an update in tomorrow's report.
