Gonna be a snowstorm in PA tomorrow complete with howling 40 mph wind. Glad I'm not there. Gonna be clear and 50 in the sun Downeast Bar Harbor. Not gonna give us sloppy seconds either---going off the coast.

I was pushing my third year of marriage then. Been working for 5 years full time. Now 45 years later, been retired 5 years full time. Don't look the same though.

The winds from the storm were above 60 MPH from the south. With the incoming tide driving up the Penobscot River and near hurricane force winds, there was an immense tidal surge. The water came up the Penobscot and up Kenduskeag Stream. It was about 10 AM back in 76 when it hit. The entire parking lot beside the stream flooded. People tried to move their cars, but it came up too fast. A guy who worked for Bangor Hydro went out in ice cold water up to his armpits and saved a lady on top of her car. They ended up getting married. I guess she figured he would be dependable.

The surge will be around midnight tonight. I hope the weather people have alerted Bangor.

Old people remember stuff like this.
Interesting story. We can simply cheat and Google it or have fun looking for the observations from stations that day.

Average Last Frost Dates

Keep in mind these are the "averages" which means it can still happen after these dates although not as common obviously..

Looks like last frost date is before Mid May for Southern Maine and end of May into June for Northern Maine.

Heads up on that graphic.. they used "32°" as the last frost date.

Frost can occur with upper 30s but more common with low-mid 30s. N

WS uses 36° as the frost criteria. So add a week or so to those dates

Great day! 70 degrees. As usual, we seemed to go from winter to summer in two weeks. I know it is going to cool down this week, but we are definitely in the "easy six months of the year" now.

These are the few magical days between "mud time" and black flies. The wild cherries are blossoming. I saw my first trillium coming up and daffodils are blooming in peoples' yards. As the water temps reach 42 degrees in the streams, trout go on a feeding frenzy.

Black flies are already out here in good numbers, however they havent bothered me yet. I just noticed them in the car, as they follow in, then realize what happened and immediately go to the window and try to get out. Same thing happens with the deer flies later in the year.

Not over yet..

The Polar Jet Stream doesn't want to give up and there's been some pretty cold air around north of the border.

NWS Gray Maine... Fire to Snow.

EXPECT TEMPERATURES TO WET BULB IN THE DRY AIRMASS AND IN A
CRUEL TURN OF EVENTS ALLOW RAIN TO TURN TO SNOW OVER SOUTHERN AND
CENTRAL NH AS WELL AS PORTIONS OF WESTERN MAINE. SEVERAL MODELS
POINT TO A 2-4" SNOWFALL...WHICH IS NOTABLE ON THE HEELS OF A RED
FLAG DAY. THERE WILL BE A FLUFF FACTOR AND HAVE KEPT AN AVERAGE
OF 3" IN THE GRIDS. OVERNIGHT LOWS WILL RANGE FROM THE 20S
NORTH...WHERE THERE WILL BE LESS CLOUD COVER AND NO
PRECIPITATION... TO THE MID 30S SOUTH UNDER CLOUD COVER.
