We got 11.6 inches here on the Trans-Maine Trail. The pine boughs are heavy. It was wet snow. I hope the wind does not pick up.

That was fun. It snowed all day long, yesterday.

Today there is not a speck of white anywhere on our property.

Today is a day I wouldn't come north to Maine to cool off.

Its hotter in Maine than in North Carolina today

Another Top 10 Spring day here in CT with temps in the 60s/70s and Dewpoints under 40!

Just opened the door to go out on the deck and got hit by the heat, 90F.
Quickly went around closing the windows, the house will stay cool if buttoned up as we have some shade pines.
It feels somewhat muggy, more than the previous couple of years. 44% muggy.

I imagine the deer going nuts trying to shed their winter coats.

Today, most of Maine will be hotter than Miami. I felled two dead trees at my camp and yesterday dug up the stumps. The ground is powder dry two feet down. I know of two trout streams that have dried up. There are pools, but no flow between the deep pools. Mink and otters are cleaning up on the trout.

It has been years since it was this dry. In 1994 it was powder dry four feet down. I wa byilding a pole barn. This is a goood time to do earth work in areas that are normallly damp.

It is legal to dig in a brook if you are establishing a dry hydrant. I',m going to try to have our fire department create one in my brook. About 50 years ago, my neighbor who owned the land excavated a deep pool with his bulldozer. Now it would be bone with an excavator. The reason the pook filled up is that a beaever dam went outupsteeam and washed out the road because the culvert was too small. Now there are two culverts because it took 34 truclods of gravel to fix the road. Those 34 trucloads of gravel that washed away are in my wood lot.

Mother nature dcides where brooks will be.

The Saint John River has dried up at Ninemile Brideg. The flow is ONE PERCENT of normal. Many small streams have dried up as I mentioned above. Here's a useful link used by river runners. Nobody is goind to be canoeing the Saint John and th Allagash is very low. The West Branch is very low, but the open the dams to flush white water rafters down a stretch. Here's a link where you can click on your river of interest:

The Penobscot River is at its all time low for the date. Same with the Piscataquis at Dover. The Mattawamkeag is at its all time low.

The only river in Maine that is above normal Is the Ellis River (a tiny river) in Andover due to a thunderstorm. It's time to take pictures. You may never have such an opportunity again.
