Yea, you are right... Macon is the center of the universe. What was I thinking. I am sure anyone who comes to visit will see that. Never mind what I say... I have never been anywhere or seen anything.
Best wishes NewtownMacon.

Stores and restaurants are closing left and right at Macon Mall. Anybody who thinks Nordstrom or any other high-end retailer on that scale is coming to Macon before 2020 is crazy.

I wouldn't hold my breath. Middle Georgia simply cannot support Bloomingdales, Saks and Nordstrom - period.

It seem like you the one holding your breathe nervously, Yes your right not many Markets even the ones that already has these retailers can't seem to support them in this troubled economy. However, You have to be very careful what you say because things seem to come back and slap you in the face... I will never say what something will not do because it has happen in many areas before....(areas were people would have never imagine so much growth and opportunities; made unbelievable turnarounds seeming over night). Its so funny how you guys get a kick out of trying to bad talk Macon....Lol I can tell from posting that an idea like this in Macon is very disturbing for some, as if you guys are pretty much hoping it doesn't happen; none has proposed or committed to any projects,YET. The developers were talking about these Merchants looking at the North Macon area for locations. I think a lot of you guys seems to be upset and afraid they may actually come and Macon might really shine..... Believe it or not but the Macon-Warner Robins area has a huge amount of people who has well paying job, enjoys and will spend their money for high quality shopping. Like I mentioned these developments will not be solely supported by just the city of Macon, but Macon Serves as a Economic hub for all of central GA and even some parts of south GA with a draw area of over 22 surrounding counties with a pop of over 700,000 and a lot of them are far from being broke. Not only that Macon has the largest Interstate system in Ga outside of ATL,which bring more people from outside of Mid Ga to Macon to shop. Believe it or not, a lot of people would much rather drive to Macon than Atlanta to avoid the traffic chaos... Right now several large Companies are proposing operations in Macon, but construction was pushed back to 2010 or 2011 because of the Economy. Also when the Commuter Rail finally get to Macon from Atlanta, the Airport keeps off, this will bring even more people to Macon and fuel even more growth.... A lot of Ga state officials has said countless times that Macon has a much better chance of potentially seeing a growth boom like Atlanta than any other 2nd tier city. I believe if this economic crisis had not happen it would be happening right now....Although the city of Macon has lost pop due to lots of new growth sprawling outside the city limits, Bibb county as well as other bordering counties are still growing.

The gray shade shows the Urban Area boundaries as growth and development has crossed over city limits.
