Thank You for that info, glad someone remembered Rabs. Thinking back now i do remember " Martial Arts" having to do with Rabs, my friend worked there for a short time and the owner taught him some self defense punches & kicks.
Sad to hear the owner passed.

Thanks

I was a member there. It also fuctioned as a martial arts school. Ritchie Barathy passed away some time ago. I am not sure of the cause of death.

The Busy Bee! I'd forgotten about that one. I think it closed sometime in the early-to-mid 1990s. A friend of ours used to have a "stall" there.

There's a Kohl's store on the same spot now, I believe.

The Pioneer diner was our favorite place to go after the movie. We actually lived right down the block (347) in Hillside Terrace, across from the Yellow top farm stand. Wow, that brings back memories. Been gone 14 yrs now but remember it like it was yesterday.

I am pretty sure the Duane Reed chain acquired the Rock Bottom stores a few years ago.. not all that long ago, maybe 2001 or even more recently.

Wow, Rockbottom forgot about that place. I use to shop at the one in Lake Grove. It left the retail scene about the same time Genovese did.

Default Still here after 60 years....

I can't believe I forgot to mention Borrelli's, the Italian restaurant on Hempstead Turnpike at Meadowbrook Parkway, right near the Coliseum! It's been there since the late 1940s, still family-owned, and still packs 'em in every time there is any sort of event at the Coliseum or nearby.

I remember taking my son there for the first time as a toddler in the mid-1980s and introducing him to some of the same staff who waited on me and my parents twenty years earlier.

It's nice when restaurants, stores, etc. remain in their original form and ownership over many years. My son and I still go to Borrelli's for dinner every time we attend an Islanders/Rangers game (as do many other people); the tradition lives on!
