The 56th Fighter Group restaurant, right next to Republic Airport, closed in 2012, sadly.
Held our 30th HS reunion at The 56th Fighter Group right before it closed. As part of the planning committee, I have to say we were all very nervous as we had given them a non-refundable deposit shortly before the closure was announced. Our event was 8/4 and the closure was to take place on 8/12.
We were there in the mid 80s with our son (pre-NYI games) and Nick was still there. Short guy, probably in his early 60s by then. Because we'd always go before the games, that meant between 5:30 and 6, in order to be out and in our Coliseum seats before the puck dropped at 7:30. Too early for things like karaoke. :-)
Haven't been there since the mid 1990s though, because the cost of going to games (in a decent seat) got too high. I like hockey but to pay $100+ for a seat in the upper middle tier behind either goal line wasn't do-able anymore. Being in the nosebleed seats isn't something I ever thought was worth it, not even for NYI/NYR games.
I remember when $90 got you a great seat in the lower 100 section at center ice. And when it cost $4 to park, lol
I was @ Borrelli's a few months ago. Is Nick still alive? LOL
+ Skateasaurus @ United Skates Hicksville … he around still?
Where my man Skateasaurus at?
United Skates is on Hicksville Rd in Seaford. I remember going there as a young teen when it opened! It was an old supermarket converted to a skating rink. It seemed so much smaller compared to the cavernous Levittown Rink.

We used to go to the Jahn's on Ave. U in Brooklyn and I also later went to the one in Jackson Heights. I never went to the original in The Bronx.
When we moved to Long Island, there was a Swensons which I had also gone to in Canada. Swenson's used to give out calendars in December with a picture of some lush ice cream desert for each month.
