Talk about volatility in a few days. COD is pushing close to $5 and some even above $5 right now!

How long is the process for switching to heat pumps? I reckon it's probably too late since it's already getting chilly, but I'm curious to whether there are companies out there that have figured out ways to blitz through the process.

What is that? How different is it compared to oil burner?

If you have existing duct work, it makes the job easier. In that case, should only take a few days to complete the install.

Heat pump runs on electric. To simplify, it’s like a reverse air conditioner.
They do work with hot water heat, but mostly they are a forced air system with duct work.
The plus side is they are AC & heat in one unit, the downside is, in the past they would struggle in extremely cold weather to produce enough heat. Supposedly, that has changed however, and they are now more effective in colder temps. They are/we’re pretty much standard issue down south/moderate climates.

They're pretty common in NC - but that's the knock I hear against them, they do struggle when it gets really cold. That's usually a few days per winter here so people just suck it up I guess.

My mom has one it’s insanely efficient her winter electric bill is $90 for 1350 sq ft condo. It sucks and struggles in cold weather. If it was gas it would work fine. Unit is about 6 years old.

They’re usually installed with “emergency” heat aka electric baseboards.
When the heat pump can’t maintain the auxiliary baseboards kick on. It’s kinda ridiculous.

My winter EL bill is more than $90 a month WITHOUT a HP. You sure she doesn't live in a cave?
