2700sqft 4 bed but I'm home all day. Still not bad at $90/mo. avg'd from my last 12 bills. Just use CFLs in the 2 rooms we're in the most and turn things off when not in use. PC on 24/7 (media server), and humidifiers do run every night. Don't use a dryer or a dishwasher's dry cycle. Keep the fridge/freezer at 45/6 F. CAC sparingly in the summer. Those are traditionally the biggest 3. I honestly believe people are not as efficient as they could be. I've heard of people with $300+ electric bills but they leave lights and tvs on when they go out - I mean how do you do that with a clear conscience?
Gas bill is only $100/mo. too. Taxes are the only killer for us on LI.
For the OP, if you want to get to the bottom of it, here's a spreadsheet I made to get an idea of the big costs every month: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4y...ew?usp=sharing. I used 23c per kwh which is what our rate typically comes out to after taxes. You can grab and modify yourself if you want.
I dont know what my bills are at this moment but I feel like they are up a decent amount in the winter months this year compared to previous years. Is it PSEG?
3 bedroom house and about $45 per month, no balanced billing. When they estimate my bill, its is about $70 and then the next month always much less because they estimate too high. In the summer months, if the AC is used alot, it sometimes breaks the $100 mark--actual not estimated.

PSEG raised it slightly but it should not be that noticeable. Compare your KWH used and their total charges. Past bills are all online for you.
Two bedroom apt about $48mo balanced billing. Will drop lower according to what I've been using and what I'm being billed. Flat screens and game systems are most likely the energy hogs

I have to ask is that $45 a month for a three bedroom home on Long Island? That sounds incredibly cheap.
