Sorry I meant Sahara/Charleston (NOT Alta)

I'm on the hunt for a house (yet again) and I've been driving around looking in different areas. I really like the area between Eastern/Maryland.... because it reminds me so much of back home (Ohio). There are houses with green yards and trees plus all the houses don't look exactly alike. When I drive through I feel like I'm back home and not in Vegas anymore!

I've also been driving between Eastern / McCleod and Sahara/Desert Inn. This area also seemed to have a lot of homes with green front yards and trees.

If anyone knows what these areas are called please let me know. Thanks!

You know I am your friend, but c'mon now. You luckily just got a job that saved you. You could lose this new job tomorrow as you know. You need to live below your means like I do. Get a cheap guesthouse or apartment. Renting a room would even be better but I know females are not to comfortable so that is why I did not recommend it. Regardless, save all you can for the upcoming economy collapse. Keeping your expenses as low as possible is the key to surviving right now.

I believe [If not mistaken] thats the GREATER VEGAS area....nice nice area but it is old so there are quite a few problems with the homes....my sister liv ed ther for a time and ultimately they had to do MAJOR work on the house because of a water leak under the slab....larger homes are a ton of money...smaller ones sometimes have a LOT ot low lifes in them....

There are at least three very old developements in there I think. One is Huntridge. I'd stay out of there, especially at night. You ain't in Ohio (or Kansas) anymore Todo.

If your going to live in that area. You will need to have your home secured with rod iron and learn to mind your own business. Also be prepared to drive to get groceries. The Maryland and Charleston bums can be pretty aggressive.

Don't take this the wrong way, because I was "homesick" for many years myself; but if you want to feel like you're in Ohio and not in Las Vegas, then maybe you really want to go back to Ohio. It took me a couple of years when I got here in the 60's to really realize that life in Nevada was better than anywhere, even with the California style cookie cutter homes. At that point I became a Nevadan (of course I've kept my dual citizenship with WV for 46 years in case this doesn't work out. ).

BTW: The best style homes for the southwest, IMHO, are Pueblo Revival; aka: Santa Fe Style.

First let me say THANK YOU LVD for watching my $$$ for me!!!! LOL I know I just got a job that according to you "saved me". However, it's still time for me to move. lol The owner at my condo has consistently raised my rent since I moved in and I know once my lease is up in June he will be raising it again. At the price I'm paying I can be in a house for cheaper. I am currently living on my own (with my child) without a roommate or renting a room and I don't plan to move & up my rent by thousands! lol As my mom would say "I might be some dumb but I'm not plum dumb"!!! LMBO I am going to move closer to my childs school and my job which will save me a ton on gas/time. I also plan to stay at the same amount in rent or go lower so... I think I've pretty much got it figured out. I thank you for your suggestions and concern though.
P.S. I've totally cut my expenses... we no longer have cable & my daughter no longer has a cell phone!! <gasp> Seriously you would think I stopped buying food the way my daughter is carrying on!! LOL

Moving on... so based on the suggestions it seems that area looks good but isn't the best area to live in? I do miss home, grass & trees but not enough to be robbed and holed up in my home like a prisoner! I'm not THAT homesick Buzz!! LOL I am working on getting my mom to move here next year and once that happens I will be a HAPPY camper! :-)

What's surprising to me is that I drove around in the area for several hours looking for homes for rent. I found several and called a few and the rents were $1000+ a month. I wonder why rent is it that much if the area is so bad??

I also went to the area off of Charleston near UMC and it was absolutely BEAUTIFUL!! However the couple places I saw for rent were $1700+ for rent. LVD you don't EVEN have to warn me to MOVE ON from that!! LOL

Would all the same warnings apply to the area between Charleston/Desert Inn & Eastern/McCleod??
