I still get a feeling of awe when I pull out of my street and see the mountains surrounding the valley, or take the curve at the 215/95 where you can see an unobstructed view of the entire city and valley. My wife and I still say almost daily "I can't believe we live here!". The scenery is truly amazing, and I can not imagine ever taking it for granted, although 30 years from now, I'm sure I may..

After traveling around for 25 years, and moving every 2 years for the first 13, and every 3 years after than, I've found I can live anywhere. And I've also come to the conclusion that if my SO is happy, then I'm happy. In (Las Vegas) Henderson, she's happy. Bonus: the exchange rate is 1 to 1, and everything on my desk dosen't need to be nailed down.

Sounds like you did take for granted some of the views in Rhode Island. Sorry you felt trapped for 5 months out of the year. I've noticed even after some of the worst snow storms, it is usually over and done with in a day or two. I've never felt stuck indoors just because its winter.

If some people only knew what LV looked like 30 years ago when I first started going, it was so beautiful, had a glamorous, spread out feel to it, but not now, now its congested, with a cheap trashy feel to it. The casinos years ago was just enough, but now there's too many, causing some of the vintage ones to close, like the Sahara. It is definitely over grown, mainly due to greed. With a bad economy nationally, so many undesirables have moved in, most came without jobs, and the crime rate sky rocketed.

Fortunately you never have to come back to such an awful place .. My economy couldn't be better, I have a great job, and live in the 2nd safest city in the United States. And I never once took for granted the views in Rhode Island. It's a great state, and the only complaint I had was the weather, something the state had no control over. I miss the oceans, beaches, and history, but for me weather trumps all else.

I second that Raiderman as far as greed goes try living in NYS your own state and county governments are more greedy than any casino is at least you can win once in a while in a casino lol. Weather wise nothing to compare to on the East coast the only season there is fall time but it last to short and then the cold weather comes. See you on the F street or Hogs and Heifers

I was born and raised here, and 30 years ago and well before that, this place was small, empty, with a very bad teenage street gang problem (downtown area especially) with already aging hotels on Fremont Street and a few nice hotels and motels on the new LV Strip.

I agree with you that undesirables have moved here, but they were already here to begin with, lol

Population exploded but we got a lot of nice things too. With everybody moving here, some of our once nice neighborhoods started to decay with the constant in and out of people. And so much nicer stuff was being built that we could move to, nicer than what we had in our original downtown and northeast neighborhoods and in parts of the valley that were once empty sandy desert are now beautiful and lavishly landscaped home neighborhoods and parks with restaurants and shopping and whatever till it comes out of your ears!

Yeah, I liked the small town-iness of Vegas when I was younger, shopping at local stores, knowing the cops who patrolled your area by first name, your civil servants, commissioners, judges, entertainers, heck, it seemed like you knew everyone in town!

But the Vegas of today IS all about the glamor and lights and ultra modern and everything your heart desires. I would most recommend you stop visiting Las Vegas, as it doesn't sound like you are enjoying it that much, sorry about that, it isn't for everybody. So many other places to visit for vacation, skip Vegas altogether if you don't enjoy it!! Simple as that!

BTW, greed is everywhere and is in everybody. In Las Vegas, as far as us natives go, the greed has been most beneficial to us and we are and have been very fortunate to be able to enjoy the visionary greed of others.

Same here. For my first 10 years I switched assignments every 1-3 years. Good thing I wasn't married at the time.

Our dorms were a blast during the typhoons. Playing tackle football in the hallways and some of the largest LAN parties ever. It's not like we could have gone anywhere anyway.
