Hi everyone,

I received a part time job offer in Las Vegas. Just wondering is it possible to live on 26K in Las Vegas? The job sounds good and I did enjoy living in out west (California and Utah) but concerned about relocating for such a low salary. Also wondering what people like/dislike about living in Vegas. I enjoy hiking and outdoors not into bars or gambling. Thanks!

If your car is paid for and you don't have large outstanding debts you should be able to make it. You could also get a second part time job to supplement your main income.

Lots of people survive on that amount and less.

As long as you...

-don't gamble
-don't drink
-like to cook (instead of eating out)
-live in a modest, but safe neighborhood
-and drive a used Honda Civic (or something similar)

...you'll be fine.

If you live very frugally, that salary is OK. If it's temporary. I wouldn't want to live in the city of excess that we are and be cash strapped, watching others enjoying things here and you on such a tight budget just surviving. Be careful of where you live, cheapest rent is sometimes very unsafe.

If you like hiking, there is plenty of options.

There's plenty to like and dislike about Vegas. It depends on what you can tolerate and what irks the bejeebers out of you. I should think there is more to like, at least this is my perspective.

Have you ever been to Las Vegas before, Trish?

I have a family of 4 and a 730 car payment. I don't need but a little more than 25k. Are you guys buying crack or something?
1 bedroom apartments are cheap here, utilities aren't much, food is cheap.

I like that everything is here. I like that I live 1 mile from a mountain and 7 miles from the strip. I can drive to several very diverse areas within an hour. I LOVE the near constant sunshine. There is too much to do here.

I don't like that it does get cold here. I don't like the way the streets are run (not many turning lanes) the pedestrians OMG!!! I don't care for the seasonal nature of the place BUT I knew that coming in and it's not too bad.
Traffic is bad but NOT as bad as many other cities.

If I was single, I could easily live here in Las Vegas on $26k salary per year.

There are tons of options. Here's just the first one I found with a 2BR condo starting at $700:
Parkway at Silverado Ranch - South Maryland Pkwy | Las Vegas, NV Apartments for Rent | Rent.com®

Are you saying you live in a 1BR apt with a family of 4?
