I had heard rumors that a young night club guy from the LA area got the financing but can't confirm that.

From LV Review: According to the plan, the existing room towers, the Tunis, Tangiers and Alexandria, will be renovated. The roller coaster will be dismantled and a 2,830-square-foot beer garden will be constructed. The number of hotel rooms will be decreased from 1,700 to 1,622.

Retail, tenant and restaurant spaces will be added, and the casino floor will be renovated. A 21,000-square-foot nightclub will be built, and 41,000 square feet of meeting and convention space will be added with a new pool deck area.

It's unclear when construction will start

Last I heard, Nazarian took on some partners and got the financing in place. He plans to reopen in 2015 under the SLS hotel brand.

It's a shame that it had to close, but I knew it wouldn't last long when they were only charging $25 for rooms on weeknights in the summer of 2010.

They renovated the Hilton...Now it's called HLV. They might to the same with Sahara. But that area of town has always been a sore spot with tourists linking to Stratosphere, so who knows what they are going to do. Eventually I see them linking all of it to match the lower Strip all the way to Fremont. But this is probably decades into the future...

Sam Nasarian, the CEO of SBE Entertainment and owner of the Sahara said in an RJ interview, he is committed to not only refurbishing the Sahara but committed to the community as well. He just closed on an $8.5 million home with 14,000 sq. ft at Promontory Point in the Ridges. Formerly he was in LA. I would say it's just a matter of time for work begins.

It is well on it's way down 4/11/13 nothing left inside of it as that was all sold. I am sure bit and pieces of real estate in that part of LV is going to be developed but it looks very fragmented right now. It will be just interesting where the line will be drawn between the old strip Downtown and the new strip. The new Chinese Resort may be that line More people are venturing off the strip because they rent cars now and have GPS to use so they get more daring and go to the off strip places. The stigma of North Las Vegas being a combat zone is going away because of the DT development and this area where the Sahara is should be able to benefit from that. Read the Sun they keep a good update on what is going on.

They're gut renovating, but AFAIK, no major buildings are coming down. Some of the gingerbread is (that open dome-y thing in the front came down already.)
