Apologize if this is redundant, but it's definitely an eye opener and wish I had viewed it prior to installation of my smart meter.

I havent read this whole thread, only bits and pieces and I dont feel like going back and starting from the beginning.

For all you people that think these smart meters are the best thing since sliced bread, think again. The power companies are not going through all this trouble and expense for our benefit!
You may think you power is cheaper now but wait till they start using these things for peak hour usage in the near future. You think your summer power bills are high now?

Any specific reason its a "joy"? Its not a fireplace that one sits near to and gets warmth from.

When the power company decides to shut off your electricity because they feel like it to "conserve" power in the region, on a 110F day, I am sure you won't think its a "joy". How about some medical equipment that has to be on and is shut off? They control pretty much everything in the house YOU OWN any time they feel like it and you have absolutely no control over it.

Do you know that PG&E has come up with a fee if home owners decline to install these meters? So, a meter that has been doing its job for who knows how many decades is now considered "bad", but if you pay PG&E more money its "good". Sir, how much is that bridge?

Also, a good number of customers' bills went up overnight when these new meters were installed. Double in a number of cases.

Do you average similar consumption numbers after your "joy" was installed when compared to years past? That should be your second question, right after "What happened to my freedom of choice?"

A lot of interesting info here including FEDERAL rake on the subject: Stop Smart Meters! | Fighting for your health, privacy, and safety

See how Federal law stipulates that it is up to a customer to ask for a smart meter, nowhere it says customers must install them.

Smart Meters aren't capable of shutting off your electricity. You are confusing these with the ac thermostat program. A few guys that post here use it, they save money and your ac is only ever shut off for a 15 minute maximum. Medical equipment isn't impacted.

We'll disagree on that, then. I was one of the software developers on the team that got that ball rolling back in late '90s at PG&E. At the time I didn't understand what "smart meter" is and what this was all about, sadly, not that they couldn't replace me with me someone else if I'd declined. Initial roll out was to major businesses, with a good amount of issues to take care of, and we all thought that is where it will stop. Riiiiiight....

Default Smart Meter Installation

Got on the phone today 12/07/11 to NV Energy to "postpone install" on the Smart Meters on my two rentals in Henderson. NV Energy told me they already installed the new smart meters in July of this year and there is nothing I can do about it. Since the tenant pays the electricity, they sent the bill to him about the upcoming install. I asked NV Energy how a tenant could make that decision and why they didn't have to contact the home owner. They claim they don't have to.

I do have my other address on the account so it's not like they didn't know who the landlord was. Neither one of my tenants let me know about this so I am not sure how the letter from NV Energy was worded. Anyway I am not very happy about it. I asked if I could pay to have the Smart Meter changed out for an Analog Meter at my expense and she said no. Is this true?

The old analog meter was their billing equipment, the new meter is their updated billing equipment. Aside from telling the occupant, their client, that they won't have power for 15 minutes, why would they contact you?
