How about a shot of a license plate with a metal tab year number on it.

In relation to the photo of the city sticker:

Sermon was the Mayor for 24 years and I recall the name Craig as the city clerk when I was a kid so he may have been the clerk for a somewhat similar amount of time.

Of course this was when the Eastern Jackson County Democrat machine was in power and no one could defeat them until 1962.

Also, the photograph posted by Doc of a 1938 Independence City Sticker shows "24-36 H.P."

That 24-36 horsepower was on every sticker I ever purchased for my two or four door automobile.

The city must have used Belgian Drafts as a benchmark.


I did ask about that horsepower number one time when the City Hall was in the old Bundschu Department store but don't recall the answer I received.

This would appear to be on west Maple just west of Pleasant Street.

It was open for a while several years ago as the Three Trails Hotel.
