Cool rig! Where can I get one of those? I've never seen one before.

The usual I have seen is an independent vehicle, either a car or a pickup, operating by itself. This is the first time I have seen a truck with couplers pulling a train of cars. I have never seen this in any of the railroad magazines either. There were four or five cars behind it.

This is the Bess Truman family home at 117 W Ruby. Click the blue right arrow. I was not aware of it until I drove by and saw the historical marker.

A short biography of Bess Truman says she was born at 117 W Ruby. Other sites say this was her childhood home.

She was born in 1885. Zillow says the house was built in 1890.

Zillow also says the house contains 2456 square feet and is valued at $151,400.

Dont have any information about this home. It is at 129 W Ruby. There is a light on inside. Apparently someone lives there. The house caught my eye before I saw the Bess Truman house at 117 W Ruby.

Zillow values the property at $155,000, which is more than the Bess Truman place.

Another mystery home. Not very fancy, but still a mystery!

Pearjas, be sure to make that trip! There was also a MR on Lexington not too far from you in the Good Ol Daze. 803 at Union.
To my knowledge I never knew of Maid Rite in Independence back in the old days. If someone were to show me a photo of one near the square, though, I would probably remember it or the building.

Pyper's Place at Osage and 23rd served the crumbly or "loose meat" hamburgers. I tried them a couple times but did not like them, but, of course, Pyper's specialty was the pork tenderloin. When the 23rd Street bridge was built across the tracks at Osage, Pyper's had to move. They wound up at 23rd and Northern and later became Clem's. I still did not like their crumblies. Clem's is still shown in Google Maps but the place has opened up under new ownership in the last couple years.

Today, in Centennial, as I was headed to Freddy's, my favorite hamburger place (there are two in the KC area), about a block away was a new Maid Rite.
