I sure don't remember a Milgram's there. Judging from your time frame, I should since we moved to just SW of 40/Noland Feb. 1965. There was the Holiday Inn and the 40 Hiway Drive In (who could forget that!) on the corners, so it must have been on . . . . which corner or thereabouts? Too many years passing I guess

Mom shopped at Cascio's alot. Also Consentino's near the BR Mall. Later Price Chopper where the old Wild Woody's was. A&P at Blue Vue 47th/Blue Ridge (across from Sheil Funeral Home) and US Super 51st and BR.

Milgram's was next door to K-Mart I think. On the NE corner of 40 and Noland.

I was not aware of a Milgrams in that vicinity either but that area expanded after I left town.

Another item we had discussed on this site (at least I think it was this site) was the fact that Sam Walton had traveled from Arkansas to Kansas City to meet with Les Milgram in the 70s and proposed that Milgrams join Walmarts expansion and open a new grocery store next to every new Walmart that opened.

Milgrams management vetoed the idea because they did not believe they could handle that big of an expansion.

Man! That's crazy! I don't know where you come up with those pictures but I haven't seen that since 1973. That's cool!

I think there was a Milgram's attached to the K-Mart at 291 and 24 also.

Ok Doc settles it. That was very close to my house and I remember the K Mart well. Maybe we didn't shop at Milgram's

Ha, ha, that's my secret! Actually, I just keep digging on the net 'til I find some, plus I have several books on Indep. Also, I had a Great-Uncle that used to go around town taking photos of things and places that he heard or read about them closing, tearing down, or just liking what he saw and took a picture. Guess that's how I got started. Mad's a great one for old photos he's taken in the past.

On the note of houses that were demolished:

This poor guy (along with its farm outbuildings) is slated for demolition to build 2 new "Custom" modern homes. Its out at the intersection of Highway 7 and Bill Johnson Road (between 24 Hwy and Bundschu). The land and house were owned by members of the Hudspeth family, who were a pretty big deal in eastern Jackson County. Its not ornate, but its one of only a few remaining farmsteads in east Independence.
