Look up the name, and you'll usually find multiple cards on that person, one for each mention they received in either their own obit or someone else's. The card will give the date, page and column for the paper. You then go back downstairs and pull the microfilm for that date and start reading. For a murder begin a few days before the obit. P.S. Speaking of those of you in town, where are you Silver Doc?
Yeah, I'm kinda wondering about The Doc also . . . not like him to forget to let us know when he's out of town. Doc, you there? Sally? Pearjas?

Yep! Of course it was because of all the springs that were in the area at the time, which made Independence the perfect place to start a trek across the plains, considering not may knew exactly where water was to be found east of the Missouri river.

That is the backside or rail side of Independence Stove and Manufacturing at Cottage and Hayward. I think I put some information on earlier that they manufactured the brown enameled steel facade for the Grenada Theater when it was built in 1940. Apparently the building is being used by an Independence company called Gaylord Foundry Equipment company for some purpose.

Whether it's a rush job, a large production run, or a unique application, IPE can handle it. Since 1922, IPE has applied its porcelain enamel coatings to a growing number of industrial and consumer products - from pump bowls and flanges to cookware and stove tops - in a wide range of colors and surfaces. Since it's beginnings, IPE was founded on the principle of quality workmanship with reliable, dependable service. Now as a subsidiary of GFE, IPE continues this enduring commitment to its customers. IPE handles a wide range of surface applications. Pneumatic conveying tubes, signs, pumps, engine intake and exhaust manifolds, flanges, and foundry hoppers are some of the products. We also provide appliance refinishing service.

Items include cast iron cook ware, appliance panels, burner grates, grills, signs, automobile intake and exhaust manifolds. The coating is also used in industrial applications for pneumatic conveying tubes, vertical turbine pumps (aka bowls) and impellers.

That must be the work area for both companies. And Gaylord has their admin offices in that big brick building--or at least part of it.

Independence Porcelain Enamel has been in existence since 1922 but if someone were to have asked me about it prior to today, I would not have had a clue.
