Bass Pro Shops, America's most popular outdoor store, will open a 104,000 square foot Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World® store in St. Johns County, Florida to serve the Jacksonville area--the 4th largest trade market in Florida. The new destination store will be located directly on I-95, 17 miles south of I-10 and I-95, at the new 9B and I-95 Interchange in North St. Johns County--a very high-profile site owned by Gate Petroleum Company. Some 88,000 peak hour trips per day will pass in front of the new store site. The store will be situated within a 40 acre area that includes a 14- acre lake that will be managed for trophy bass and youth and community events. The new Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World store is targeted to open in the second quarter of 2014 subject to completion of the newly planned interchange and supporting road system.

I went to the one in Savannah, GA. a couple of years ago. It takes about 2 hrs just to see all the stuff that they have in there.

Good news for St. Johns County and for all of us. We loved The Bass Pro shop in Duluth, GA and look forward to the opening of this one.

Great news! I'm trying to picture this location. Does it run next to Racetrack Rd, or near there?

What's the difference between BPS and Gander Mountain?

I'm not a hunter/fisherman, obviously.

Being neither a hunter or fisherman either but a traveler, BPS seem to most of the time to be located on major interstates and are magnets also for travelers. Almost like the Kittery Trading Post and LL Bean effect up north. Pretty huge and definitely impressive to visit. It is kind of like going to an outdoor sportsmens exhibition.

There is a new player gaining ground also:

Cabela's: Cabela's Official Website - Quality Hunting, Fishing, Camping and Outdoor Gear at competitive prices.

nothing really. The pro bass shops usually are larger because they do the exhibition stuff (try out the fishing stuff in the pond, sometimes even take a boat out, etc.) I think Gander wants to be in places like the Town Center, Bass Pro wants to be on major interstates.
